VILLAGE OF KARAMANOVO

Karamanovo is a village in Northern Bulgaria. It is located in Municipality of Tsenovo, District of Rousse. It is 6 miles from the village of Tsenovo, 38 miles from the city of Ruse, 12 miles from the town of Svishtov, 18 miles from the town of Byala and 6 miles south of the Danube River.

At the beginning the village numbered 10 families. Later in 1861 there are 200 houses in its territory. Today, the population of the village is about 875 people.

The village has its own primary school - "Hristo Botev". It was established in 1856 and was awarded with the "Kiril and Metodiy" Order - first degree. It is currently functioning and teaching 65 children.

The "Kiril and Metodiy" Order - first degree was awarded to the community center "Svetlina-1905" - village of Karamanovo.

The village also has its own kindergarten "Radost", opened in 1983.

In 1952 the hunting lodge was built, which also functions.

The village also has its Football Club. It bears the nickname of the great Bulgarian revolutionary Vasil Ivanov Kunchev-Levski! It was founded in 1946 and is a permanent participant in the Regional Football Group.

The church in the village of Karamanovo was built in the middle of the 19th century by a group of masters of Kolyu Ficheto, immediately after the completion of the bridge in the town of Byala. Viewed by bird's eye view, the church looks like a cross.

On the territory of the village there is a town hall, post office and shops. A general practitioner and a dentist take care of the health of the population. The nearest hospital is in the town of Svishtov.

There are many natural landmarks, caves, rock formations, historical monuments and more in the areas of the nearby settlements. An example of this is:

- Kolyu Ficheto Bridge over the Yantra River near the town of Byala;

- The numerous monuments in the town of Svishtov - "100th Anniversary of the Liberation", the Monument of the Donors, the Monument Area and others;

- "Rusenski Lom" Nature Park.

In 2004 the book about the village - "Karamanovo - past, people, fates ..." by the author Ginka Dimitrova - is released.


MUNICIPALITY OF TSENOVO

Municipality of Tsenovo is located in Northern Bulgaria and is one of the constituent municipalities of District of Ruse. Its borders are as follows: to the east - Municipality of Borovo; to the south - Municipality of Byala; to the southwest - Municipality of Polski Trambesh, District of Veliko Tarnovo; to the west - Municipality of Svishtov, District of Veliko Tarnovo; to the north - Republic of Romania.

Municipality of Tsenovo is situated along the lower Yantra River in the Danube Hilly Plain.

The municipality has 9 settlements with a total population of 5 670 people. The settlements are the villages: Tsenovo (municipal center), Beltsov, Belyanovo, Dzhulyunitsa, Dolna Studena, Karamanovo, Krivina, Novgrad and Piperkovo.

The municipality has the opportunity to develop river transport along the Danube River.

The main roads are with Ruse, Byala and Svishtov. The municipal center is about 30 miles away from the city of Ruse, 20 miles from the town of Svishtov, 8 miles from the town of Byala and 163 miles from the capital city Sofia.

Through the municipality pass 4 roads from the Republican Road Network of Bulgaria.

The municipality has a rich archaeological heritage. In the village of Krivina in the 4th century the castle "Jatrus" grew - one of the significant Roman military centers along the Lower Danube. The open archaeological excavations are the remains of a Roman and early Byzantine city destroyed by the Avars at the beginning of the 7th century. On its ruins in the 7th - 8th century, there is a Bulgarian settlement protected by a massive stone fence with towers built outwards. In 1958 the eastern gate, public and private buildings, two old Christian basilicas were found, many iron swords, ceramics, X-century gold coins, tools of labor, etc. were found. Only 1 mile north of the village of Belyanovo, carved in the rocky right bank of the Yantra River, a rock church with frescoes was discovered. Only 1 mile to the north of the village of Karamanovo were found tombstones in Latin. Only 1 mile to the west and southwest of the village of Novgrad were discovered various archaeological finds: stone satin phases, chrome, tools of labor and agricultural tools of stone, flint, bone, bronze, iron, fibulae, applications, emperor Justin (565-578) pieces of various dishes. In the vicinity of Tsenovo, a treasure of gold and silver crockery, two silver bracelets, a ring with inscription, fibula, silver trim and 1200 coins was discovered in the Guttula locality.

The main cultural and natural landmarks in the municipality are:

- Ethnographic museum in the village of Novgrad - consisting of 9 halls, revealing the livelihood, the lifestyle and the culture of the region. You can see discovered archaeological finds from BC; exhibits related to the detachment of Hadji Dimitar and Stefan Karadja; crafts of the people of the past - livestock, agriculture, beekeeping; modern life is also shown - economy, education and life before democratic change;

- Bust monument of Dimitar Apostolov Tsenov in the village of Tsenovo;

- Lenin Monument in the village of Novgrad - the only settlement in Bulgaria whose center has a preserved monument of Lenin in full height;

- A rope bridge over the Yantra River - built in 1968. It is the longest rope bridge in northern Bulgaria over the Yantra River, connecting the villages of Novgrad and Belianovo. This bridge is only for pedestrians;

- The Iron Bridge over the Yantra River - located less than 1 mile east of the village of Tsenovo. The bridge is 85 metres long and 3 metres wide;

- Orthodox Cross "Monument Symbol" - located in the immediate vicinity of the village of Tsenovo in the southeast of the "Bog Bair" area. The monument is in the form of an orthodox cross, 18 metres high. It is illuminated at night and symbolizes the faith of the people.

- Historical reserve Tekir Dere - located near the town of Svishtov, about 14 miles from the village of Tsenovo.


DISTRICT OF RUSE

Ruse is the biggest Bulgarian river port on the Danube River, serving an important part of the international trade of the country. Danube Bridge, also known as the Ruse-Giurgiu Friendship Bridge, which until 14 June 2013 the only one in the shared Bulgarian-Romanian section of the Danube, crosses the river here.

The city is known for its 19th- and 20th-century Neo-Baroque and Neo-Rococo architecture, which attracts many tourists, and for which it is often called the "Little Vienna". There are over 260 buildings, monuments of culture and dozens of sites with the "European Cultural Heritage" sign, which were built as a result of the enterprising and European spirit of the people of Ruse, who at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century attracted prominent European architects and builders for the construction of an urban architectural environment that is one-of-a-kind in Bulgaria.

Ruse occupies a significant place in the Bulgarian national history and has a rich cultural-historical heritage - a potential needed for the development of cultural tourism. As a settlement, Ruse has a very rich, millennial history.

Ruse is home to many museums, telling about the legacy of the long historical existence of the city and the region: Regional History Museum - Ruse with open-air expositions - Sexaginta Prista and the Medieval City of Cherven, Pantheon of the National Revival Heroes, Museum of Urban Life, House-Museum "Baba Tonka" and House-Museum "Zahari Stoyanov", Ecomuseum with aquarium, etc.

There are a variety of attractive recreation areas on the territory of Ruse Municipality. Forest Park "Lipnik" near the village of Nikolovo is a popular place for rest and recreation on weekends among the locals. There is a lake and facilities for fishing, boating, outdoor sports and picnicking. 20 km from Ruse is situated "Rusenski Lom" Nature Park.

Along the Danube runs one of the 15 bicycle corridors that connect bicycle tourism enthusiasts in Europe - EuroVelo 6.

The Nature around the city of Ruse

** Natural Park "Rusenski Lom" - The Rusenski Lom River Valley, along with its tributaries Beli (White), Malki (Little) and Cherni (Black) Lom represents a unique world in itself in which the amazing nature is entwined into out remote past history. Part of the valley was proclaimed a Natural Park. The park is located at about 20 km to the south-west from Ruse. It was created in 1970 with the purpose of preserving the canyons of the three rivers, their flora, fauna and historical landmarks. The rivers have created incredibly beautiful gorges into the limestone rock foundation. It is genuine joy for the eyes and real paradise for rock climbers.

** Natural landmark "Orlova Chuka" Cave - located on the left shore of the Cherni Lom river. It's the 2nd longest cave in Bulgaria (13 438 m in length), representing a complex labyrinth of interweaving galleries, tunnels, abysses, big and small halls.

** Lipnik Forest Park: the park is a big site for recreation, sports, tourism, sunbathing and all other kinds of entertainment, situated at the distance of 12 km east of Ruse. There are country houses, restaurants, artificial lakes, a hotel, a zoo corner, a sports base and a camping site. Its serenity and fresh air attract citizens & foreigners. This is a wonderful place for fishing, water sports, walking and just enjoying the day.

The villages in the region are capturing the tourists with the picturesque nature, the rock landscape and the breath-taking views and the plenty of opportunities for hiking, riding and biking experiences. The surrounding area offers different ways to spend your free time and to enjoy the beauty of the region.

The closest ski resort to Ruse is in "Uzana", the geographic center of Bulgaria, located at about 28 miles from Veliko Tarnovo. The surrounding sites of Uzana are suitable for spaleology and rock climbing. There are possibilities for cultural tourism in the region.
