Inside the manor used as Dr Dolittle’s home in Hollywood film

It’s the medieval manor where a blockbuster movie was filmed and now it could be yours for a cool £5million.

Tucked away in 40 acres of breath-taking countryside, Cothay Manor depicted Doctor Dolittle’s home in the film Dolittle, which premiered in cinemas in January.

Hollywood heavyweight Robert Downey Jr starred as the eccentric physician who can talk to animals, and filmed a number of scenes at the impressive nine-bedroom mansion.

Built around 1480, this incredible Grade I-listed property boasts a fine collection of late 15th century and early 16th century features.

The beautiful home has been unusually well-conserved and is said to be an outstanding example of a late medieval hall house, so it’s no wonder that Hollywood came knocking.

The main hall room, with it’s endlessly high ceiling, striking wooden beams and huge stone fireplace, feels amazingly authentic.

You’ll find this enchanting home 11 miles from Taunton, deep in the Somerset countryside.

The property itself is surrounded by magnificent gardens, laid out by the renowned Colonel Reginald Cooper D.S.O and sympathetically restored by the current owners.

The romantic garden is also home to a wildflower meadow and a lake, which are both absolutely stunning and perfectly tranquil – we can picture Robert Downey Jr rehearsing his lines here!

The home also featured in author Simon Jenkins’ 2003 book England’s Thousand Best Houses.

This property is listed for sale with Knight Frank.
