Description

Does inhabiting a dwelling with a mysterious ancient narrative and passing legends on to our future generations intrigue you?

geek are enchanted to reveal a home that is just that – steeped in mythical monk stories. The roots of mythical truth were sewn way back in 1704; the year the house was built: medieval England in all its glory and here in Minster, once known as the ancient capital of Thanet, and thus was once the jewel in the crown, with a bustling harbour, and the Wantsum channel lapping at the heels of her Abbey. Minster’s history is often dark and covert, with stories of underground concealed tunnels linked to the Abbey, clandestine secrets, persecutions and concealed doorways.

This detached cottage was allegedly a holder of village secrets, and so the story goes, was once an escape hideout for the monks, who feared for their lives, and sought refuge from their brutal slayers.

We have been informed, but perhaps not reliably, that there were tunnels underneath, from which the frightened monks would emerge. You cannot help but feel this homes history reverberate within its 16th century walls! A perfect setting for a candlelit dinner.

The interior palpates with the past, with glimpses of modernity blended in. The low beamed ceilings; the wooden latched doors; the crooks and the cranies; the central staircase; the original cupboards collectively illuminate the houses’ period, charm and past.

Downstairs, the livings spaces are, what geek, would call substantial in size, together with a further two rooms, that, whilst currently comprising of an office and a study, could easily be altered depending on your needs. The kitchen space is split into two and lends itself to a wealth of creativity; you will find double doors that lead to the outside. There is such space for scope and personal stylising, it needs to be seen!

The garden is mostly shrouded in tall trees and hardy well stocked shrubs creating a virtual enclosure and projects a sense of ‘removal from the world’, which is rather evocative.

Upstairs over two floors are four bedrooms, where the vibe of the early 18th century continues to emanate from the prolific character of the house. There are two upstairs ensuite bathroom/shower rooms, both of, what geek would describe as, generously proportioned, and there is also a contemporary fitted shower room downstairs. On the top floor is an eaves bedroom that runs the length of the house.

Geek love this atmospheric historical house; it’s charm and evocation have us talking in the office. We would love to take you to see for yourself and to see if you can make this your new home.
