Description

The property is ideal for the couple in search of a romantic retreat.
Recently renovated Two floors property is in the medieval town of XIII,
25 km from Rome
The first floor: entrance and hallway, bathroom, living room with fireplace, under the wooden staircase there is the space used as a utility room, a laundry room (with drying rack), large open-plan brick-kitchen with oven/fireplace and dining room.
Upper floor: large bedroom with a mezzanine and the bathroom, large closet built into the wall.
The house retains some of the characteristics of the construction period (XIIIsec.), with a large arch, niches, marble, stone, and 2 fireplaces.
The floors are in rustic style, on the upper floor of wood of white birch. The room on the top floor was originally divided into a double bedroom and twin bedroom (there are in fact two windows), the situation is recoverable very simple.
The kitchen sink is a handmade marble travertine. All the sanitary fittings are of excellent quality.
The property is located on one side of the valley and the other on a dead end, no traffic and very quiet.
As it is an independent apartment, not part of a building of apartments, there are no additional costs for heating nor condominium fee.
The main body of the house dates back to the 1300s. The apartment has been tastefully restored recently and is in a quiet lane. It has a private entrance from the lane and overlooks the beautiful Valley Siriaca which is part of a vast regional park with rich flora and fauna, natural springs and Etruscan tombs.
The Viterbo train station, Piazzale Flaminio is a ten-minute walk away, as well as the stop of Cotral. In the historic centre of the city, there are bars and food shops and a supermarket can be reached on foot.

The railway station is a 10-minute walk up the hill on to the Via Flaminia. Buses and trains leave from the station and take you directly to Piazza del Popolo in Rome's city centre or Saxa Rubra bus station. Castelnuovo di Porto also has a highway exit, on the Austostrada A1, that takes you to Rome's Ring road in 10 minutes.

The house is a short walk from the main square which is the heart of the local community. People meet to enjoy a coffee or an aperitivo at one of the tables in the village bar, relax on a bench in the sun, or simply watch the world go by. It is a pedestrian area, so safe for the many children that come to play here or enjoy a gelato after school. There are several shops and services just outside the entrance to the historic centre including a baker, butcher, doctor, pizzeria and restaurant, all within easy walking distance.

Castelnuovo di Porto is a charming medieval hill town situated 25 km North East of Rome and is one of the few unspoiled historical centres close to the capital. The village grew up around an imposing medieval castle called Rocca Colonna. During the course of history, Rocca Colonna was contested by several noble and even papal families and eventually became the property of the Colonna family, giving the castle its name.

After the second world war, the castle was used as a prison until the 1960s. It has now been skillfully restored to its former splendour and has many frescoed rooms which everyone can enjoy as the castle is open to the public for numerous cultural events such as theatre, concerts and art exhibitions.
The village, located in the area pertaining to the Parco di Veio, between two narrow valleys crossed by the Fosso Chiarano and the Fosso della Mola, has an enchanting old historic centre, that is the result of a century-old history. Originally it was a medieval fortress, controlled by the powerful Colonna family up to the 16th century.
In the area of Castelnuovo di Porto, in via Pian Braccone you can find Belmonte di Castelnuovo di Porto, a charming insight into the typical landscape of the Roman countryside, where you can see different species of animals along with Etruscan and medieval archaeological evidence, as well as use a picnic area.
The reference to Porto in the name of Castelnuovo is most likely due to the town being included in the diocese of Porto, which was held by a senior Cardinal. Castelnuovo was for many centuries a fiefdom of the Colonna, one of the few this powerful family had north of Rome.
Towards the end of the XVIth century, the Colonna had significant financial difficulties and Castelnuovo became a direct possession of Camera Apostolica, the body of the Papal State in charge of the fiscal system. This explains why in 1624 a coat of arms of Pope Urban VIII was placed on one of the side walls of the castle.
The Cardinals of Porto were keen on providing the inhabitants of Porto with well-kept churches.
