Description
With records dating back to the early Sixteenth Century Cubben House is one of the oldest properties in the valley. Owned originally for over 200 years by the Lords of Irton Manor the house was then bought in the early eighteen hundreds by Cumberland Yeomen farmers who lived here for five generations. The property has been sympathetically restored and updated but retains a huge amount of charm and character throughout. Cubben House is currently used as a successful holiday let with regular bookings. This versatile property would continue to rent as a holiday let or make a fantastic home for someone looking to enjoy the quiet life. This property is finished to a very high standard and features double glazed windows throughout making it a warm and cosy place to relax and enjoy.
You enter the property via the front door and beautiful entrance porch with a stone floor and stone lintels on each side. Even the front door oozes character. The main living room is the centre of this cottage and a great place to relax and unwind after a day out, enjoying the surrounding fells. The more time you spend in Cubben House, the more features you will spot. The fireplace is the focal point of this room, framed by dark wooden beams. The fireplace itself is built from a mixture of local stone and weathered brickwork. An original bread oven, no longer working, still features here. Bench seating, built into the corner of the room, offers a place to relax and enjoy a drink, with the bar hidden above in the original spice cupboard.
A fantastically light and spacious dining room sits to the side of the main living space. Two large windows flood this room with natural light and offer expansive views of the surrounding fells including Birker Fell, and Muncaster Fell, famous for its castle which is located on the other side. The dining room comfortably seats eight people making this a fantastic property to entertain friends and family.
The kitchen is located to the rear of the property and features a pitched ceiling with exposed beams and two large velux windows. A wide picture window frames a fantastic view of the garden. The kitchen units are all solid wood and are a distressed shaker style with a solid oak worktop. Tile floors, a rangemaster cooker, and Belfast sink add the country kitchen styling. A useful laundry room / pantry sits to the side of this room for added storage.
In addition to the downstairs bathroom a shower room and a spacious double bedroom is also located towards the rear of the property, in the single storey section of the building. Vaulted ceilings and windows on all three walls make this a light and airy space to enjoy the surrounds views. This room would also work well as a second living room, home office or studio space.
Upstairs there are two generous double bedrooms plus an additional room, currently used for storage, that would work as a small single bedroom or office. Both bedrooms have painted wooden floors and have been tastefully decorated to blend comfort and character. Every window offers a different angle of the truly stunning landscape. The main bedroom also has ensuite facilities.
