Powburn lies 11 miles west of Alnwick on the A697 giving easy access south to Morpeth and Newcastle and north to Wooler and the Border towns. The Cheviot Hills provide an impressive backdrop to the village and are a popular venue for walkers and wildlife enthusiasts.
