Description
Originally converted by one of the Town Planners for Milton Keynes, this special property has lots of character and history, but still offers the opportunity to put your own stamp on it and create a truly unique forever home.
You access the plot through a stone wall with a five-bar gate onto a shingled driveway that can accommodate multiple vehicles. To the right is an orchard that flanks Leys Road - this acts as a great separator between the house and the road, but also offers the ability to create a 'drive on, drive off' driveway or even a detached garage building/further accommodation should you wish (stpp). The understated entrance to the property adds to the majesty of the barn.
As you step inside, you can't help but notice how incredibly light the hallway is. This is thanks to floor to ceiling windows that overlook the internal garden, of which one was the original entrance prior to the site being developed further. It could be the underfloor heating, but you immediately feel a sense a warmth and peace when inside this home. This is helped by the triple-glazed aluminium windows which make you forget you're a mere stone's throw from Centre:MK and the train station.
The hallway leads you into the heart of the Thresher barn which is now a centre-piece dining room. Tall windows on both aspects overlook the two gardens, and offer the first glimpse at the equestrian field behind. Small touches such as the bespoke chandelier crafted by a blacksmith show the attention to detail that has gone into this home. The kitchen is another perfect example of this, which has clearly been thought out and designed for everyday use. Dekton worktops offer a high level of durability and resistance to scratches, stains, and heat which makes them a great choice for everyday use - yet another sign that no expense has been spared when renovating this wonderful home. The large island will sure to be the hub that you and guests congregate around, and seating is provided by a bar with seating for four. Other features of note are the eye-level ovens which sit beside the pantry which has pocket doors, a hob with built-in extractor and a Belfast sink. All the light switches in the kitchen are hidden to add to the minimalist aesthetic.
Back in the dining room a staircase leads to the first floor where you'll find the living room. As this space is in the eaves of the barn, it feels very cosy eventhough it is a bright space thanks to the large windows. A log burner ensures winter evenings are something to look forward to. A walkway which has built-in bookcase and glass balustrade offers a place to admire the view over the neighbouring equestrian field before you enter the main bedroom. This understated room has been designed to make the most of the surrounding views, and feels like its own self-contained space thanks to it having access to its own bathroom on the first floor. There is a further bedroom on this floor, however we agree that the current owners have made the most of this space by utilising it as a dedicated dressing room. A staircase with exposed stone wall leads you back down to the hallway.
On the ground floor are two further double bedrooms which could be used as further reception rooms should you wish. A fully-tiled shower room serves these two rooms, as well as there being a separate WC by the front door. A side door leads you out to explore the gardens via a covered seating area. You could enclose this space to connect the two separate parts of this home, but in doing so you'd miss out on the opportunity to spend summer evenings undercover beside you very own external fireplace. If you chose to do this, however, you could still take advantage of the two built-in firepits in the dedicated external dining area which is just off the formal dining room.
Before entering the annexe you have to take a wonder around the formal garden and appreciate the little pieces of history that are scattered around. Where it be the original gate that would have separated the barn from the Manor House or the small pieces of ironmongery that have been left from times passed and feel as though they belong to the home, it's easy to forget you are as close to Central Milton Keynes as you are. Behind the Thresher barn is another garden which is the perfect place for summer games to he held. As you walk further into the garden it narrows and draws your gaze over the equestrian field where you'll be hard pressed to find another home in sight.
You enter the annexe straight into a reception room which is being used as a gym. Behind this is a dedicated laundry room which also serves as a great place for storage due to its size. A door leads through to the conservatory which could have a multitude of uses as it has sliding doors onto the garden. Lastly you enter the annexe bedroom which has air-conditioning, a kitchen and a shower room, meaning it really is self-contained. This space is ideal for an older child or au pair, or alternatively this space could be incorporated into the main house to create a home exceeding 3,000 sq.ft.
