Description

Description

One of the most prominent buildings in the area, The King Alfred Hotel, built in Victorian Gothic style, was opened in 1904 and is named after the first of class warship HMS King Alfred that was built just across the Walney Chanel at the Naval Construction Yard and launched in 1901.

Today, The King Alfred Hotel operates as a very popular hotel, bar and restaurant that also caters for functions and conferences, it benefits from very loyal support from the local community and excellent occupancy Monday-Friday all year round. Weekends guests are mix of leisure/visiting friends and family/function guests. The bar and restaurant have strong lunchtime and evening trade and is the go-to destination in the area for functions, in addition to regularly hosting conferences and meetings.

Location

The King Alfred Hotel is located on the main thoroughfare between the popular residential area of Walney and the centre of Barrow in Furness. It is situated within walking distance of the BAE Systems construction yards, who recently secured the £3.9billion contract to build the new generation of nuclear powered submarines and who employ around 17,000 employees in the town. The town centre is currently undergoing a major urban regeneration programme as a result of the £17.1m levelling up funding and there are an additional 900 new homes a year being built in the area.

Internal Details

A large, spacious bar with mix of tables and built-in seating providing 40 covers. The restaurant area also offers a mix of tables and built in seating providing 100 covers. The function room is used for smaller functions and conferences with up to 30 additional covers.

The function room and restaurant are adjacent and can be used together for large parties/functions.

Ancillary areas include a fully equipped and operational commercial kitchen (all equipment owned by the business), walk in fridge, chest freezers, dry cellars used for storage and a large beer cellar. On the first floor is an office.

Letting Accommodation

There are 10 en suite bedrooms (seven kings/doubles & three singles) which are well presented, well decorated and offer good quality accommodation.

External Details

There is a car park to the side for circa 30 vehicles and parking area to the front for circa 10 vehicles

Beer tables to the front and a beer garden to the side of the property provide an additional circa 100 covers.

The Opportunity

The King Alfred is a very popular, busy, vibrant and successful hospitality business that is well placed to continue to grow, benefiting from the exceptional high levels of employment and investment in the town and local industry. The business boasts excellent rating and reviews and benefits from many loyal and repeat clients.

Our clients have worked hard to grow the reputation and success of this iconic local business but are now looking to retire and so are reluctantly selling, but they believe there is further scope to develop trade as Barrow in Furness prospers from the recent investment in the area and the internationally renowned ship/submarine building industry in the town.

Trading Information

Turnover for the year ending February 2024 was circa £1.37 million. Barrelage was circa 435 barrels. The business benefits from strong profits and further trading information is available on request.
