Description

A fine Grade II listed townhouse set in a captivating walled garden.

Description

Oak Hall is a Grade II listed Georgian detached property believed to date back to 1749 of brick construction with part tile hung elevations under a Kent peg tiled roof. The property has been sympathetically restored by the current owners, offering many period features amongst generously proportioned rooms with high ceilings, sash windows, dado rails, wood panelling, deep skirting boards and attractive fireplaces to the majority of rooms.

Two reception rooms comprise a stunning panelled dining room and an exquisite drawing room. The drawing room is a well-proportioned room with a sash window to the front enjoying garden views to the front, French doors opening to the rear terrace, panelled walls, stunning twin pillars and open fireplace with a decorative surround. The dining room with period panelling also enjoys views to the front with sash window and fireplace, double solid wood panelled pocket doors open to the kitchen. The entrance hall is a welcoming area again with wood panelling, stairs to the first floor, access to the cellar, cloakroom, and a door to the kitchen.

The triple aspect kitchen/breakfast room has been fitted with bespoke kitchen units with wooden worktops over housing a dishwasher, two larder fridges, Belfast sink, and central island. A Smeg six ring range sits in the inglenook fireplace with cupboards to either side and bresssumer beam over. The breakfast area with a wide part glazed door gives access to the rear terrace. There is a basement area with two rooms, one currently used as a laundry, a wine store and a log store.

The first floor has a split landing. To the right is a shower room and an elegant double aspect sitting room with Colefax and Fowler wallpaper, ornate fireplace with brick back housing an attractive gas fire. To the left is the main landing with seating area, sash window overlooking the lawned front garden and exposed floorboards. There are two bedrooms on this floor, both with glorious sea views and exposed floorboards. One has an en-suite bathroom with a roll top, claw foot bath. On the second-floor landing there is a borrowed light atrium, storage cupboard, a family bathroom and three attic bedrooms. The largest bedroom having two dormer windows, vaulted ceiling, half wall tongue and groove panelling and painted floorboards.

Oak Hall is approached from Bartholomew Street through a black solid door set in the garden wall opening to brick steps which lead to the secluded front garden which is predominantly laid to lawn with mature trees and shrubs including a well-established wisteria flanking either side of the front door. The garden consists of separate areas perfect for entertaining for enjoying the sunshine and taking advantage of the shade. A sheltered brick terrace is accessed from the drawing room and kitchen with steps up to another enchanting terrace. There are two garages with electrically operated doors and two parking bays accessed on Bartholomew Street.
