Description

Description

The Thanington Hotel is a detached, three-storey (plus basement) Grade II Listed building.

The main building is understood to date from 1770 and consists of brick and rendered elevations beneath a double-hipped slate tiled roof hidden behind a parapet wall. There are single storey parts on the east side of the main building, beneath pitched slate tiled roofing.

A timber framed conservatory on the west side and rear of the property forms a corridor connecting the main building with the rear bedroom block. This purpose built accommodation block was added in the 1980s and is constructed over two storeys, with exposed brick and part timber clad elevations beneath a pitched slate tiled roof. At the side of this bedroom block is an indoor heated swimming pool which is covered by a single storey steel-framed roof.

Location

The Thanington Hotel is located on Wincheap, one of the main arterial roads into the centre of the City of Canterbury. This beautiful and ancient City, which is famous for its cathedral, attracts visitors from around the world. Canterbury is also home to The University of Kent and Christchurch College, giving the city a substantial student population as well.

The City has two mainline railway stations, Canterbury East and Canterbury West, offering a variety of services to London, some in less than an hour, to stations including Victoria, Charing Cross and St Pancras. The A2 passes by Canterbury and offers convenient road routes to the Kent coast, as does the A28. The M2 and M20 link to the M25, making Canterbury a very easily accessible location.

Internal Details

Reception desk, bar/server, ground floor catering kitchen, office, various store cupboards on each floor, swimming pool boiler room, residents' TV lounge, residents' bar (15 covers), split level residents’ dining room (upper: 10 covers, lower: 24 covers).

The hotel has an indoor heated swimming pool with its own guest WCs and changing area.

The Opportunity

The business trades as a good quality and well known boutique hotel. It is open all year to take advantage of Canterbury’s strong all year round tourist trade.

Staff

The business currently operates as a fully staff run business being overseen by the owner.
