Toroni is the southernmost area of the Sithonia peninsula , a place of exquisite wild beauty being part Natura 2000 is a network of protected areas covering Europe's most valuable and threatened species and habitats.
The landscape is typically a coastal Mediterranean landscape with a pronounced coastal dissection, long vegetation, antiquities and tourist development. Large sandy beaches, picturesque bays, small marshes, steep coasts, and small country cottages.
The are was inhabited from prehistoric times and in the early Christian years, was renamed as belonging to various monasteries of Mount Athos. It was preserved in time as a minor village but unfortunately, many ruins of the ancient city that were were destroyed in order to use the granite building material in the construction of Thessaloniki and Constantinople.
On the small peninsula of Lycythos and on the hill of Vigla, one can see remains of Byzantine masonry and foundations of harbour works. A few Km away is situated Porto Koufo, the largest and safest harbour in the area, bejwelled by deep sea caves and solid rocky shores. Kartalia,the southernmost cape of Sithonia,was once a habitat for birds of prey.
Toroni is nowdays famous for the quiet life, terrains of special beauty, where one can swim, bike, tour,camp climb, with family and friends alike, enjoy the sunshine and free,simple life.
