Tolleshunt - the name of which originates from the Anglo Saxon to mean 'Toll's Spring' - features a village shop, a primary school situated on Tollesbury Road called St. Nicholas C of E School rated ‘Good’ following their latest Ofsted inspection dated April 2024. There is also a pre-school in the village, Tolleshunt D'Arcy Pre-School which is in the village hall on Tollesbury Road. In addition there is a recreational ground for multiple uses.
The village also has ‘The Queen's Head’ public house, an Indian restaurant, St.Nicolas's Church and D'Arcy Hall.
Tolleshunt D'Arcy has a rich history. Built in the 16th century, D’Arcy Hall was given to its original owner by William the Conqueror. Another unique feature of the village is that one of the only remaining genuine Maypoles in the country which stands in the centre of the village. The surrounding area also features the Old Hall Marshes, a nature reserve owned by the RSPB, which is a haven for a wide variety of local and migrating wildlife. For commuters Kelvedon mainline station is approx. 7 miles providing direct access to London Liverpool Street.
