Description

Fine & Country are delighted to present Apple Tree Cottage, a spacious 6 bedroom period home on the edge of Salisbury Plain, yet within easy reach of Pewsey's mainline station.

“In the heart of a quiet rural village on the edge of Salisbury Plain, sits Apple Tree Cottage. With characterful features and spacious interiors, this well-sized 6-bedroom family home also comes with a generous garden, double garage and off-street parking. It is thought to date back to the 1820s and was originally two estate cottages, which have been subsequently combined and extended to the rear.”

Seller Insight:

What is your favourite room of the house and why?

This is a hard question to answer as both the kitchen, the true hub of the house, and the sitting room, a great place for relaxing and/or entertaining, are contenders. I think I would have to go with the sitting room as it has such a great wood burner feature and offers superb flexibility with the French windows opening onto the patio and garden in the summer and the cosy feel with the fire on in the winter. We have spent many a happy evening in this special room and hope it continues to spread joy for the new inhabitants.

Who do you think would be the next ideal owner?

I think the next ideal owners will be a young family or a couple planning on starting their family. The house lends itself perfectly to family living with all the space, lots of rooms (so when extended family come to stay no-one gets on top of each other) and plenty of room for pets…. We have had dogs, cats, hamsters, chickens; all adding to the happy vibe of this much loved home. It easily accommodates babies, toddlers and teenagers with the large garden being a central theme throughout all of these different stages.

What do you love most about the house and why?

It has to be the atmosphere. From the moment I walked through the front door, I knew I loved it here. It has a unique welcoming feel and everyone who visits feels relaxed and often comments that ‘it feels like being on holiday’. The use of wood and brick throughout the interior, along with feature windows, archways and other interesting design features, makes for a rather magical atmosphere.

What do you love about the local community?

Everyone in Everleigh keeps themselves to themselves, but is right there to help, if it is ever needed. I would describe it as a rather old-fashioned neighbourhood where we all watch out for each other. There is a good mix of young families, older families and retired people now. We all share garden produce and enjoy our village events like the Summer Party and Bonfire Night held each year in the Jubilee Field opposite the popular (and well maintained) playground. The non-consecrated and beautiful Church holds several lovely services like Harvest Festival, Easter and Carols with a bunch of us helping decorate it before hand – it always looks wonderful. The Village Council is very active and the WhatsApp group is hilarious!

How easy is it to commute from here?

Commuting is easy. The mainline station at Pewsey is 10 minutes away by car and has direct lines to London Paddington in roughly an hour; Andover is 20 minutes away and goes to Waterloo in about an hour. Access to the 303 takes about 20 minutes and the M4 is roughly 40 minutes drive. We are about 30 minutes from Salisbury (and the hospital there) and 45 from Swindon (and the hospital there). The city of Bath is an hour and 15 minutes away by car.

What made you choose this property over others that were available at the time?

Apple Tree Cottage was hands down superior, in every way, to other houses that we were looking at in 2004. It had more space, more bedrooms, a much bigger garden, was well maintained, had character, a lovely feel, amazing kitchen and seemed to have our name all over it. We literally moved in and began our lives here. I knew it would be our home within about 5 seconds of seeing it.
