Ampney St. Peter is a scenic, small village, set in the Cotswolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village is made up of picturesque Cotswold Stone cottages and houses. Ampney St. Peter forms one of the three Ampney villages (Ampney St Peter, Ampney Crucis and Ampney Crucis) clustered within a few miles of one another. In August 2012, the village's post box was painted gold by Royal Mail to signify the gold medal won by resident Dressage Olympian, Laura Bechtolsheimer, who was a member of the British Dressage team in the 2012 Olympic games.
Cirencester, which is deservedly known as ‘The capital of the Cotswolds’ is an historic Roman town which became an important centre for the wool trade in medieval times. Today it is a thriving market town. Shopping in Cirencester is highly regarded, off the main streets there are many interesting back lanes with specialist shops, particularly Black Jack Street.
Communications links are excellent: there is a fast and regular Great Western Train service from Kemble to London Paddington which takes approximately 75 minutes with stops at Swindon, Didcot and Reading and road communications via the A419/417 dual carriageway offer good access to Junction 15 (M4) at Swindon and Junction 11a (M5) at Gloucester, making the main centres of Bath, Bristol, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Oxford within easy daily commuting distance.
Gloucestershire is renowned for its excellent selection of schools. Local private schools include Beaudesert Park, Kings School, Wycliffe College, Cheltenham College, Cheltenham Ladies College, Rendcomb, Marlborough and Westonbirt. Additionally, there are a number of local state schools as well as seven highly regarded Grammar Schools, including Stroud High and Marling School in Stroud, and Pate's Grammar School in Cheltenham.
