Description

A charming cottage, located in the pretty village of Berwick St John, nestled in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside.

Michaelmas Cottage is a charming property constructed of local stone under a slate roof. Over the years the cottage has been extended whilst retaining its original character and provides well-proportioned and well-appointed accommodation, with generous built-in cupboards, bookshelves and display shelves.
Laid out over two levels, the ground floor comprises a porch, drawing room, dining room, kitchen and shower room. The drawing room has a large fireplace, painted wooden panelling and exposed floorboards. The kitchen features a Velux window providing ample light and adjoins the dining room, where French windows lead out onto the terracotta tiled courtyard. Upstairs you will find three good-sized bedrooms along with the main bathroom and French doors from the landing that open to the terrace.

SITUATION
Berwick St John is a delightful village nestled in a valley between the chalk slopes of the West Wiltshire Downs and Win Green, in the heart of the Cranborne Chase, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The parish includes Ashcombe Park, part of Ferne Park and most of Rushmore Park and comprises character and period properties. The village has a thriving community spirit based around the church and the village hall. The nearby town of Shaftesbury (5 miles) offers three supermarkets and a vibrant High Street with a variety of national and independent retailers as well as medical, dental and legal amenities, and a small cottage hospital. Nearby villages include Ludwell, Broadchalke and Semley, with exceptionally good village shops and butchers. For more diverse shopping the Cathedral City of Salisbury (17 miles) is accessible by road (A30) or by train from Tisbury station (6 miles). Excellent communication links via the A303 (14 miles) provide access to London and the Southwest, as well as the mainline railway station at Tisbury. There is an extremely good choice of independent and state junior and senior schools in the area.

OUTSIDE
The single integral garage provides parking and is accessed via the up-and-over door at the front. A door at the back of the garage opens onto the prettily planted courtyard. There is a wall mounted fountain above a tiny pond and steps lead up to the terrace and garden. Both the courtyard and the terrace are charming places for alfresco dining. The garden is tiered and well-stocked with a rich variety of mature plants, shrubs and flowers. Central stone steps lead up from the terrace to two further levels, and a summer house (with electricity) is situated at the top.
