Location

Balmichael is a small residential hamlet found on The String Road as you enter the Shiskine Valley and is within easy reach of all local facilities at Blackwaterfoot, including Post Office/General Store and Off Licence, a Newsagent, Butcher and Bakery. The renowned Kinloch Hotel has a swimming pool, which is open to non-residents and the local Shiskine Golf Club sits on the beach with The Tee Room café behind serving drinks and meals. The local primary school is at Shiskine (1/2 mile away) and the secondary school is located in Lamlash, to which pupils are conveyed daily with a regular bus service available. Brodick (the main town of Arran) has two larger Co-Op supermarkets and a good range of further professional services. Brodick is the port from which a regular daily sailing service by Caledonian MacBrayne leads to the mainland at Ardrossan, with an additional summer timetable to Troon. Commuters and travellers now benefit from Road Equivalent Tarrif (RET) ferry fares, which are substantially lower than before. Ardrossan has a main line rail station, with trains to Glasgow that connect with the ferry times, and is approximately 30 miles from Glasgow City Centre. Prestwick International Airport is 16 miles to the south of Ardrossan, with Glasgow International Airport 24 miles east of Ardrossan

Directions

From Brodick pier turn right and proceed through and out of the village. Turn left onto the B880 (known as “The String”) which traverses the island away from the main centre and ferry port of Brodick towards Blackwaterfoot. Shortly after passing Arran Alpacas and Balmichael Glamping, turn right into the Balmichael estate where Tigh Dearg will be found on the inside loop identified by our Watermans For Sale Board.
