Description
GLORIOUS FEATURES
Significantly renovated and enhanced back in the 18th century, the Grade II-listed property offers accommodation over three storeys. It has a cellar and still presents features such as exposed beams, beautiful stonework, attractive windows and mullioned fireplaces. Yet, at the same time, the generous house makes a comfortable, modern-day home for family living. “We have upgraded it ourselves since arriving in January 2022,” he says. “We replaced bathrooms, changed light fittings and carpets, and redecorated. We also had a new heating system and boiler installed. Everything we have done here has been in sympathy with the original style and designed to enhance the impressive period features.”
WINTER WARMING
In an elegant courtyard setting with other historic homes at Milton Ernest, the property is entered at ground-floor level. A central reception hall leads to all the main living space. “We have a lovely large sitting room, with a beamed ceiling and windows on two sides that bring the natural light streaming in,” he explains. “We have a beautiful fireplace in here, which has been fitted with a wood-burner – this is just lovely in the winter when the fire has been lit and it is cold outside.” This capacious room is excellent for entertaining, as well as family living. It is right next to the dining room, which is ideal for dinner parties. “It is very easy to accommodate people when they visit,” he observes. “There is plenty of space for everyone to spread out and be comfortable.”
FLEXIBLE HOME
The kitchen, with its light work surfaces and integrated appliances, offers plenty of food storage and culinary work space. “We tend to eat in the dining room but there is lots of room in the kitchen for a table and chairs if someone would like one.” The dining room could, of course, have an alternative use. This could be a study, snug or children’s playroom if required. A utility room and cloakroom are also downstairs.
BEAUTIFUL BEDROOMS
All the bedrooms and bathrooms are arranged across the top two storeys of the house, where, again, some of them are versatile enough to be leisure or work spaces if required. The first floor encompasses three good-sized bedrooms. The master bedroom is dual-aspect and has a lovely fireplace and an en suite bathroom. Another of the bedrooms is dual-aspect, while a third features generous, built-in storage. There is also a laundry room and a family shower room on this floor. “Then, there are two more very large bedrooms on the top floor of the house – and each of these has its own en suite bathroom. There is also a separate cloakroom.” The owner adds: “Having so much room has meant each of the children has been able to have their own space.”
SUMMER SUN
On summer days, the owners have enjoyed nothing more than relaxing out in the sunshine of their delightful, private garden. They have been able to unwind on the terrace, play games on the lawn and entertain friends and family. “It is so peaceful here,” he agrees. “We have really loved having the large garden, as well as being able to head straight out from home to go on fabulous country walks.” He adds: “This house has been such a unique place to live and its location has been everything we hoped it would be. It really has provided us with the best of all worlds.”
