Nearby Leuchars and Cupar railway stations are on the main Aberdeen to London line and provide a fast link to Dundee and Edinburgh. Edinburgh Airport, with its wide range of destinations, is 45 miles.

Dundee has a hospital, a highly respected university and a wide variety of shops, leisure facilities and professional services. Dundee High School is a private school attracting day pupils from throughout the area. The V&A Museum in Dundee, which opened in September 2018 to international acclaim, is a major new arts venue which attracts visitors from far and wide, and is a wonderful new architectural landmark for the city.

St Andrews, world famous as the Home of Golf, is only 12 miles away. The Old Course is a regular host to the Open Championship where it was host in July 2022. There are six further golf courses run by the St Andrews Links Trust in St Andrews and many other golf courses in the area. St Andrews is also well known for its university which is one of the oldest in Britain, founded in 1413. The town provides state schooling at Madras College. There is private schooling at St Leonards in St Andrews and at The High School of Dundee. Glenalmond and Strathallan boarding schools are both near Perth.
