Description

Unlisted and standing in gardens and grounds of approximately a third of an acre, Dunheve is a very pretty green sandstone thatched cottage which was extended in 2004. There is a self-contained annexe with timber clad and brick elevations which was completed in 2022 and has been finished to a high standard with spacious accommodation and lovely far reaching south facing views. Dunheve is quietly situated and has sensibly configured accommodation with a large kitchen/breakfast room, a nicely proportioned dining room and sitting room, the latter with an open fireplace with inset woodburner. At first floor level there is a principal bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and potential to create a useful dressing room subject to the usual consents. There are two further bedrooms with a family bathroom. Attributes worthy of mention include oak flooring in the hall, sitting room and dining room, window seats in the dining room and kitchen and good ceiling heights throughout. In the kitchen there is an oil-fired AGA and attractive tiled floors. All the reception rooms and bedrooms face south, making the most of the spectacular outlook.

The property is approached off the lane onto a tarmac drive flanked by green sandstone walls, leading to a gravelled car parking and turning area. There is a wild garden to the north with cut paths flanked by tall laurel hedging and rambling roses, with rowan and apple trees. The majority of the garden is to the front of the property and faces due south. There are two attractive terraces, one gravelled under a timber pergola to the west of the house. The garden is principally to lawn with a variety of well stocked flower and shrub borders and an ornamental pond. Mature trees include a ginko and hawthorn with a rambling rose. There is a greenhouse behind the annexe and a couple of sheds.

Dunheve sits in an elevated position back from a quiet lane in the village of Donhead St Mary. The village has a church and there is a pub, The Forester, in the neighbouring village of Donhead St Andrew. The nearby village of Ludwell has a highly acclaimed shop/post office, together with an excellent butcher, and Semley has a village shop, primary school and The Bennet Arms pub. For more extensive requirements there is the hilltop Saxon town of Shaftesbury which has a wide range of facilities including niche retailers, cafes and supermarkets, together with a health centre, small hospital, a library and an arts centre and cinema. More comprehensive facilities can be found in the cathedral city of Salisbury. There is a mainline railway station at Tisbury (London Waterloo) and the A303 lies some eight miles to the north giving access to the south-west and London, via the M3.
