Description

This substantial three-storey house presented in show home condition is set on a c.0.2-acre plot with wraparound gardens, a driveway and a double garage, in an exclusive village development.

Built in 2001, the property is one of a small handful of homes on Bakers Close. Since the owners moved in in 2016, they’ve upgraded, improved and refurbished what was already a fantastic family home, replaced the kitchen and bathrooms, and converted the loft into a fabulous primary suite.

Stepping inside, there’s a real feeling of space, with a wide hall, large rooms, an openness to the main living areas, as well as circular flow around the ground floor. Off the hall to the left is a convenient cloakroom, a playroom and an office. The layout here works so well for modern life, with separate rooms for all activities and for each member of the family. Toys and games stay contained in the playroom, and there’s even easy-clean vinyl flooring for when the PVA and paints come out. The office is big enough for two to work from home, and this dedicated space means every bedroom is kept solely for sleeping, without a desk in the corner drawing you to work.

To the right of the hall is the lounge, which is especially suited for gathering as a family, sat around the inglenook fireplace with its log burner and exposed brick. There’s an opening leading from the lounge to the dining room connecting the two. The dining room was once a conservatory, but the owners have given it a rubber slate tiled roof to make it a much more useable space, still with surrounding windows for light, French doors for access onto the garden, and hardwearing slate flooring. Being between the lounge and the kitchen, this has created a central, spacious hub of the home, where everyone can be together without being under each other’s feet.

The kitchen is fitted in a timeless style, with Shaker cabinetry and solid oak surfaces, alongside a central island with bar seating. There are gaps for appliances such as a range cooker, an American fridge/freezer and a dishwasher, and there’s an underset stainless steel sink. The storage is varied, including a deep corner pantry cupboard and a pull-out bin drawer. The adjoining utility has further storage, space for further appliances, and a stable door to the side.

To the first floor, the family bathroom and four of five bedrooms are set around the landing, while the primary suite is private to the top floor. Windows to the front bedrooms overlook fields for a calming scene to wake up to. All bedrooms are large doubles, the primary particularly so, two have built-in wardrobes, and three benefit from an en suite. The primary en suite has an oversized shower and a freestanding bath, for both quick morning rinses and relaxing evening soaks.

As for the outside, the plot here is a superb size, extending to approximately 0.2 acres and with gardens to three sides. The front garden is mostly lawned, with a pathway to the front door and storm porch, and gates to the driveway and the side garden. The driveway has space for two cars, leads to gravelling for overflow if needed, and the detached double garage for two more. The garage has a converted loft for storage, with stairs for access, and two Velux windows for light. Between the front and side gardens is a line of young apple trees, and there are other mature plants and trees throughout, including a patch of pretty wildflowers. The side garden is currently used as a play area, with capacity for a pool, a trampoline, and a sizeable shed to pack it all away in winter.

The rear garden is a great size for both chilling out at the weekend, and for children to run around after school. There’s a raised deck for dining al fresco, a barked area in the corner for a slide, and plenty of lawn for ball games. The owners have added a versatile garden room, currently used as a gym, but also offering a secluded space for another office, a studio, or simply somewhere to shelter during an English summer. It’s fully insulated, with heating and power, and windows for natural light.

Situated at the entrance to Bakers Close, fronting Newton Lane and behind mature hedgerow, the property has the advantage of not just a generous corner plot, but also fields in front. The cul de sac is quiet, with the river behind and countryside in all directions for getting out in fresh air and among nature. All the essentials are within walking distance, such as two shops, two pubs, a butchers, a village hall and a primary school, and Turvey is within catchment for the Sharnbrook Academy, and a short drive of the Harpur Trust.

Turvey is a picturesque part of Bedfordshire, on the border of Buckinghamshire, and within only a few miles of Bedford town centre and station, and only a few minutes of the delightful market town of Olney. Milton Keynes and Northampton are each about 20 minutes away by road, London is only a train ride away, and Luton airport is under an houraway for international travel.
