Chilcombe is a small hamlet on the northern side of the Bride Valley 5 miles south east of Bridport. The quaint village of Shipton Gorge is just over 2 miles away and comprises a pretty church and the New Inn public house and further afield, Burton Bradstock provides a wider range of facilities including a petrol station, village shop, post office, first school, two public houses and the ever popular Hive Beach Café which is well know for its local produce. The Georgian market town of Bridport and the County town of Dorchester are both approximately 15 miles away, providing excellent amenities including retail shops, schools, restaurants and pubs. Dorchester has a mainline railway station to London Waterloo in under three hours and Bridport is home to the Electric Palace theatre, Bridport Arts Centre and a vibrant twice weekly street market.

To the East lies the glorious Bride Valley which has changed little over the years with a tapestry of farms, villages and hamlets where there is an extensive network of footpaths and bridleways for walkers and riders. Further recreational activities include sailing organisations at Weymouth and Lyme Regis, horse racing at Exeter, Wincanton and Bath and nearby golf courses are available at West Dorset Golf Club, Came Down Golf Club and Lyme Regis Golf Club.
