Description

Spacious, traditional home in the heart of Elie with 5/6 bedrooms and an enclosed garden.

Description

Millford House is a well-appointed and spacious family home set back from the High Street of Elie. The rear section of the house dates from the Georgian period, while a two storey addition to the front of the house was built in the mid 19th century. The house retains many period features throughout, including working wooden window shutters and ornate cornicing.

The front door leads into the main entrance hall which has a colourful Victorian tiled floor. A staircase with wrought iron banisters and wooden hand rail leads up to the first floor. Situated on either side of the entrance hall are the dining room and a sitting room. The dining room has a large south facing window with window seat, an open fireplace with timber mantel and a large storage cupboard which links through to the rear of the house. The sitting room has a gas stove and a large south facing window with cupboard below. Adjacent to the sitting room is a ground floor bedroom, currently used as a study.

To the rear of the house is a dining kitchen with a traditional feel. It has a large window overlooking the rear garden and a painted wood panelled ceiling with a set of three drop down lights. It also has an Everhot range cooker set into a recess, amongst other kitchen appliances. A bathroom, utility room, office / reading room and store room also sit to the rear of the property. A back door from this rear hall leads out to the garden.

The elegant curved stone staircase leads to the first floor, splitting at a mid-landing. To the front of the house the landing leads to the drawing room on the one side and the principal bedroom suite to the other. There is also a large linen cupboard. The bright drawing room with study area is dual aspect with two south facing windows and a third overlooking the back garden. A wood burning stove is set into the fireplace with a marble mantel and slate hearth, and there are two fitted bookshelves. The principal bedroom has an en suite shower room, with shower, WC and wash hand basin, and a walk in wardrobe.

From the mid landing a short flight of stairs leads to the two first floor bedrooms which overlook the garden to the rear of the house. There is also a family bathroom which has a freestanding roll top bath with shower attachment, WC and wash hand basin. Stairs rise up to two further double bedrooms on the second floor and also a shower room with shower cubicle, WC and wash hand basin.

Outside

Millford House has gardens to both the front and rear of the property. The front garden is laid to lawn with a central footpath leading to a private gate on the High Street, and flower borders. A hedge and cherry trees line the coped stone wall running along the edge of the pavement and provide some privacy from the street.

To the rear of the house there is a walled garden with well stocked borders and a range of mature trees and shrubs. A paved pathway leads to the back of the garden where a gravel path and a wooden gate lead out to North Street. There is a wooden garden shed and a traditional coal shed.
