Description

Step Inside
Commissioned by herbalist William Box and built in 1880, Bay View is a charming traditional Cornish stone cottage located between the very popular coastal villages of Port Isaac and Tintagel. Boasting breathtaking sea views that stretch westwards and northwards from the property, this unique and hidden gem offers a serene retreat in a quiet coastal location.

The original cottage has been thoughtfully renovated and extended to meet modern living standards whilst retaining its historic charm. A loft conversion has transformed that space into two double bedrooms, maximising the far-reaching views of the surrounding countryside, coastline, and sea. A more recent extension to the side of the property includes a convenient store and utility room, and to the rear of the property a day room, office, wet room, and a luxurious indoor swimming pool with counter-current device for endless swimming. Whilst underfloor heating has been installed in most of the extension, granite flooring has been laid throughout and extends into the garden patio, accessible via bi-folding aluminium doors. The day room and pool room benefit from westward views and superb light.

The original cottage has been lime pointed and lime rendered internally, and features mosaic floor tiles in the hallway, a hardwood conservatory with views over open pasture land, a cosy living room with an oak floor and an impressive Woodwarm log burner in the fireplace. The hub of the home, the kitchen, has stunning bespoke solid wood units complemented beautifully by granite work surfaces, original slate flagstone flooring, a deep oak window seat, and the classic look of the 5 oven electric Aga.

On the first floor, the dual-aspect main bedroom has westerly views towards Stepper Point, The Rumps, and beyond, and to the south, views over miles of surrounding countryside, with Bodmin Moor and Roughtor visible to the east. There are two further bedrooms, both having great views, a light and airy landing with a feature window and, along with the lovely family bathroom with cast iron roll-top bath, enjoy a view of the sea, with Lundy Island visible on a clear day. Stairs lead to the two loft bedrooms, which are complemented by a wet room.

Step Outside
The garden is mainly laid to lawn and surrounded by stone walls on three sides, with a hardwood deck and granite patio, and enclosed by a pair of five-bar gates. The hot tub is adjacent to the deck and positioned to benefit from the sea views. There is ample parking.

Bay View is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty about a half a mile away from Delabole, with footpath access to Tregardock beach and North Cornwall’s coastal path. The area surrounding Delabole, Tintagel, and Port Isaac is known for its rugged coastline, picturesque landscapes, and its many secluded beaches.

Delabole has a range of village amenities including a primary school, playing field, local shop, petrol station, other local businesses, and offers a choice of public houses. Just outside Delabole and towards Port Isaac is Sea View Farm Shop, offering their own beef and pork, as well as local eggs, dairy, fruit, and vegetables. The near town of Camelford provides primary and secondary schools, leisure centre, supermarket, and many other shops and businesses.

Roughtor and Brown Willy both provide spectacular views for hikers and the coastal path leads walkers north towards Trebarwith Strand and Tintagel, and south towards Port Gaverne and Port Isaac. Cyclists will enjoy the coastal roads, with easy access to the Camel Trail at Wenford Bridge. Mountain bikers will fly on Old Hill near St Kew and the singletrack of Cardinham Woods and Lanhydrock, both just outside Bodmin. The surf at Polzeath is renowned, with kite surfing and wind surfing at the nearby Daymer Bay, and there are many more bays to explore along the North Cornwall coast, either by foot or paddle board.
