Description

THE PROPERTY

The Billiard Room is a remarkable Grade II Listed detached building designed by the renowned architect, E.S. Prior (1852-1932) and situated within the exclusive Mount Park Private Estate.

Prior was instrumental in establishing the Arts & Crafts movement and his brilliantly inventive work can be seen around the Hill, a place he had strong connections to through his attendance at Harrow School. Byzantine in inspiration this building features a shallow 'Greek Cross' plan and was featured in 'The Architect' magazine of 1891 where his use of texture was much admired, most notably in the faceted tiled roof of twelve sides topped by a polygonal lantern. They also describe the internal timber panelling and built-in furniture as being designed by Prior himself.

Appealing to a person who rejects the ordinary, this fine building rewards not so much in terms of space although the living area is generous, but in the absolute uniqueness and inspiration of its design. Upon entering you will be impressed by the full-height living space crowned with an ornate glass dome, the splendid open fireplace ahead serving as the centrepiece of this room. Wings either side create a dining space and a further living room with large window, plus a small office and further room now used as gym. The kitchen is recently modernised, bringing a contemporary twist to this floor.

A metal spiral staircases accesses the mezzanine level above, the large galleried landing providing further interest with a full view of the dome and main living area to enjoy. Two enormous arched windows front and rear contain the twin double bedrooms, both featuring storage and dressing space with a contemporary bathroom located between.

Outside is a modest terrace for sitting out, paved and ready to be filled with plants should you wish. Also a single garage sits behind and below which is a valued addition to this Freehold home. Rarely do we offer such a special property for sale, so should you be seeking an alternative to the norm please get in touch to discuss its suitability.

Harrow on the Hill village is an 'oasis' 10 miles from London, with a unique atmosphere and excellent road and rail connections to both London and the Home Counties. From its origins as a mediaeval settlement and the seat of the famous Harrow School, it further rewards with its many green spaces, independent coffee shops, cocktail bars & restaurants for entertaining, and a friendly, cohesive community.
