Description

Wandering from the kitchen through to the conservatory and out into the sunny garden, Jayne and Kevin always appreciate the space, privacy and location of their Walnut Tree home. “This house has been perfect for us for such a long time,” Jayne agreed. “We have had our children of different ages, who are all grown up now, living with us at different times and there has always been plenty of space. They have been able to have their own bedrooms – and often bathroom – and there is so much room downstairs for everyone to spread out.” She adds: “The location has also been ideal. It has been convenient for work and reaching good schools and shops and yet it is also very peaceful.”

VERSATILE LIVING

It was 32 years ago that Kevin bought the detached, five-bedroom house off-plan – and 19 years since Jayne moved in to join him. Over the decades, upgrading and extension work has been carried out as needed. “We have had a new kitchen installed and all three bathrooms have been replaced,” she says. “Rooms have been redecorated over the years and we added a very large, double conservatory that stretches right across the back of the house.” Today, the ground floor of the property encompasses the kitchen dining room, sitting room, conservatory and study or office. There is also a downstairs cloakroom. “The study would originally have been designed as a dining room but we have ample space for a table in the kitchen and have always sat down to family meals in there. It has been very useful as a work space,” Jayne adds.

GENEROUS ROOMS

The kitchen is one of her favourite rooms, she admits. “It is very large and a great place for family gatherings – at Christmas we bring in another table for eight people and join it on to the table for six.” The conservatory is another magnificent family and social space. “This can be another sitting room, family room or dining room, depending on your needs,” she observes. “We currently have a dining table for six and soft seating in there. The conservatory was worth its weight in gold when the children were here as they could be in there watching something different on television, playing games and spending time with their friends if they wished.”

HAPPY TIMES

The main sitting room is also a very good size and a great space for entertaining friends or for quiet relaxation. The conservatory adjoins both the study and the sitting room, creating a good flow between the living spaces. Two sets of French windows then open on to the garden from the conservatory, providing easy indoor-outdoor living. “It works so well when there are lots of people here,” says Jayne. “We have had lots of parties and special occasions here. This is always the place we gather with our large group of friends – it just makes sense because the house is ideal.”

IDEAL HOME

All five bedrooms are up on the first floor of the house, together with the family bathroom. “Two of the bedrooms have en suite bath or shower rooms,” she explains. “This has meant the oldest child living with us at the time has also been able to have a private bathroom.” The master bedroom’s en suite shower room is very spacious. The master suite also includes a large bedroom and corridor entrance with built-in wardrobes, creating a dressing area. “The bedroom arrangement here has been everything we have needed it to be over the years.”

FOND MEMORIES

The good-sized garden has also more than proved itself. Now semi-landscaped, it incorporates a decked area as well as a lawn. “We have had a trampoline, swimming and paddling pools and all sorts of other equipment out there over the years,” she recalls. “It is also a nice place to just sit outside and enjoy the tranquility. This is a very quiet location and we only have neighbours to one side of us.” On sunny days, they also like to walk down to the canal, river or lake. “There are lots of parks, children’s play areas and green open spaces in the area,” she says. “Yet we are also well placed for local shops, the centre of Milton Keynes and picking up major routes out to other parts of the country.” Now relocating to be closer to family, they will look back with fondness on their time at Cloudberry.
