Description

Part of a wonderful Grade II listed former Silk Mill.

Description

Built in 1820, the mill was originally constructed as a water-driven silk mill and has been used for various purposes in the intervening period.

Following the collapse of the silk trade it was repurposed as a grain mill and continued to operate in this capacity until the Second World War when it was then converted to an engineering works which produced parts for the Mosquito Bomber aircraft. More recently it was used as a sculptor’s studio.

In 2008 Dandridge’s Mill was converted to create four exclusive properties that combine luxury materials with groundbreaking low and zero carbon technologies. The development offers an attractive mix of original features and contemporary elements.
Each kitchen comprises bespoke fitted units. The bathrooms and shower rooms throughout feature sleek fittings and either stylish limestone or polished black tiling. Set in beautiful surroundings ensuring fine views of the gardens, the rare chalk stream of the Letcombe Brook and the Wessex Downs beyond.

The ethos of Dandridge’s Mill has achieved widespread recognition. The development was ‘Highly Commended for Sustainability’ in the RIBA Downland Prize 2009 and was winner of ‘Best Technical Innovation’ at the 2010 LABC National Building Excellence Awards.

The Wheel House has been imaginatively converted with an abundance of light and lovely views. Original features have been creatively incorporated in the contemporary kitchen, utility room, storage areas and impressive principal bedrooms with dressing areas and en-suite shower rooms.

The Wheel House is a delightful and quirky three storey house forming part of Dandridges Mill, which overlooks the working end of this extraordinary building. The sound of flowing water from the Brook creates a peaceful and tranquil setting.
The Archimedes Screw, which has replaced the traditional mill wheel, generates power for the Mill as water transits from top to bottom. The entrance hallway opens to the centre of the ground floor, with the kitchen/breakfast room to the front and the living room to the rear.

Bi-fold doors span the width of the end wall, opening to a private decked area overlooking the gardens, Letcombe Brook and countryside beyond.

A utility room has been cleverly tucked beneath the spiral staircase that winds to the first floor. Here there are two bedrooms, a bathroom and an ensuite shower room. Stairs rise again to the second floor where there is a third bedroom and ensuite shower room.

Outside
To the front of the property is a charming terrace overlooking the brook and historic bridge. There are two ample parking spaces to the side of the Wheel House. To the rear the large decking area leads on to a lawned riverbank frontage bordered with trees and wildflowers.
