Freehold

Description

Situated in a picturesque village on the Cornish coast, this cleverly designed four-bedroom house has been perfectly configured for carefree living. Its spacious plan is added to by an annexe with a kitchen, bathroom and separate entrance, offering an impressive flexibility of use. Glazing has been strategically placed to ensure that the house receives plenty of gentle, coastal light. It sits just two miles from Newquay, with its expansive beaches and delightful cafés.

The Tour

Positioned on a peaceful bend moments from the heart of the village, the house is finished with a crisp white exterior. A shingle path leads to its two front doors; one opens to a generous hallway, with additional access to the self-contained annexe next door.

A largely open-plan kitchen, dining and living space sits in the main part of the house. The kitchen is tucked to one side, with integrated appliances, seamless grey joinery and a handy breakfast bar. On the other side is a comfortable living area, with a glazed sliding door that draws the eye (and, in the warmer months, the entertaining) out to the front garden. This light-filled atmosphere is added to by a skylight above and windows behind the kitchen sink.

There are three good-sized bedrooms off the hallway, all with built-in storage and a soft, muted decorative palette. A family bathroom with a pink resin bath surround and separate shower is flooded with light from the carefully placed skylight, allowing for stargazing from the tub.

In the annexe, which has its own front door, there is a neatly appointed studio space with a fitted kitchen and an especially large skylight. Beyond is a room that would suit use as a bedroom or an office space, with a shower room with WC adjacent.

Outside Space

Designed to incorporate the beach-like atmosphere along every aspect of the house, a shingle garden encases the exterior. There is a contemporary slatted fence that provides privacy and demarcates the different zones between the main plan and the annexe.

A side access gate leads onto a large, shingled area housing an outdoor dining space. Wooden tubs with shrubs and succulents provide hardy year-round interest and there are well-established, fruit-producing pear, apple, cherry and fig trees in the rear garden. A generous decking area at the back of the plan opens up from the bedroom, with steps leading down onto the lawn.

The Area

Crantock is a beautiful coastal village just two miles from bustling Newquay. The house is just a 10-minute walk from Crantock's dog-friendly, National Trust-protected beach and, though famous for its surfing breaks, the coastline offers an abundance of calmer-paced options too. 20 minutes' walk away lies a quieter, protected cove, as well as The Gannel Estuary, where activities including paddleboarding, swimming and foraging take place. Once a year, the natural beauty of the Crantock Polly Joke Poppy Fields blazes into view, lying just a 15-minute walk from the home.

There are a host of lovely restaurants and bars close by; C-Bay on Crantock Bay is loved for its sunset views, and Jam Jar Kitchen is a café-turned-pizzeria come eveningtime. 400-year-old pub The Old Albion bursts with character and hosts a lively roster of live music.

Near the house is Lanteague, an exciting new cluster of small businesses housed in renovated agricultural barns. A host of wonderful purveyors have set up shop here, including Petalon Flowers (the brains behind Lanteague) as well as Gorse Bakery, Lost Brewing Co, The Roasting Room and restaurant Agweres. There is also a selection of crafters, makers, designers, carpenters and even a surf shop.

When the tide is low, Newquay can be reached on foot in 30 minutes, or 10 minutes by car. Famous for its 12 impressive beaches, Newquay is also a gateway to plenty of walking and cycling routes along the South West Coast Path. The town is filled with delightful shops and eateries, including ‘plastic-free’ The Good Lyfe, Pavillion, Basket, Box and Barber and MMW.

Only a five-minute walk from the house is Ofsted "Outstanding"-rated pre-school, The Valley Nursery. There are also many highly regarded state and private schools in the area, including Newquay Primary Academy and Trenance Learning Academy which are also both rated “Outstanding” by Ofsted.

Truro is a 20-minute drive away, while the A30 is easily reached for road travel to Exeter in under an hour and a half. Newquay Airport is only a 25-minute drive away, with hour-long flights to London Stansted and to continental Europe.
