In the vendors own words.

1 what attracted you to the property when you bought it ?

Our first impressions where great as we were so pleased to find a house on a country lane and surrounded by orchards. We saw the huge potential in the house to modernise and create a lovely family home with the possibility to extend in the future.

We really fell in love with the garden which backs onto orchards where lambs often graze. With the garden being so large we knew this would allow us to grow vegetables and keep chickens. We knew we could create a lovely space and enjoy nature here with the surrounding orchards, grazing land and conversation area a few mins walk away. The loose valley is really beautiful.

The house was also very well located for amenities such as supermarkets, village shops, great schools, doctors, hospital, library and the recycling centre (all within a few minutes drive and hospital only 15-20 minute drive).

2 what improvements have you made to the house ?

We have practically updated absolutely everything; double glazing, drive way, kitchen, bathroom as well as adding a utility room and shower room. This means all the plumbing and most electrics are new because we changed the layout in each room to make them more functional and modern.

Each room has been thoughtfully designed and planned to exactly what we wanted and needed: the bedrooms have fitted wardrobes; the kitchen and utility planned to maximise storage and worktop space; fitted kitchen appliances are all Bosch and the bathroom is inspired by Japan with a tub bath at the centre, his and hers sinks and a huge shower.

Prior to plastering and decorating each room we also insulated them. The walls, ceiling and floor insulation has really improved the EPC rating and reduced energy bills. Every room has had new doors and flooring installed (one room with solid oak and the bathroom with solid bamboo) The new aluminium radiators warm up very quickly and are extremely efficient.

The garden has even been improved a lot with decking and patio areas for entertaining, large block built shed for storage, lawn with mature fruit trees as well as our allotment area with green house, chicken coop and raised beds. We also changed fence posts for concrete ones and fence panels. For a large garden it is quite low maintenance with the plants we have.

The only thing we haven’t done was extend and add solar panels. We have been planning the extension for years and most of the neighbours have created wonderful extensions for their homes so we knew permission would be granted.

3 what have you enjoyed about living there ?

We have loved having best of both worlds here with being very close to town centre (6 minute drive) and good commuting distance to London as well as being surrounded by nature and great walking routes on the doorstep. It is so lovely spotting birds of prey over the garden. If you love aircraft you'll enjoy spotting spitfires during the summer coming from Headcorn Aerodrome (25 mints drive away).

Our neighbours are also brilliant. Quite a few of them have lived here for over 30 years but also have a lot of young families too. We have a WhatsApp group that was set up during the pandemic and we still use on occasion. They will all be really missed.

We moved from a flat in London in 2016 and have really enjoyed the lifestyle change and felt so lucky to have everything we have needed on our doorstep. Very lucky to have such a quiet little street but so close to the main town and villages. Parking is a huge bonus with driveway and garage but also street parking for guests is always guaranteed due to the quiet location.  You really get the countryside feel but still have shops open til 10pm just 2-3 minutes drive away.
