Plot of land in Benbecula. Title Number: INV27987. Plot 6 on the Isle of South Uist. Roughly square are of land. Cycling is popular on this small, tranquil island with a golf course (Benbecula Golf Course is set on the grasslands between North and South Uist next to the air-strip and is in a beautiful setting with views out to the Monarch Isles) and airport. South Uist is an island in the outer Hebrides with a population of roughly 1,754. The main industry on the island is tourism. One of the 40 most scenic areas of Scotland, there are lovely views from the front of the plot. The small island of Benbecula lies between North and South Uist in the Outer Hebrides. Benbecula is small, flat, low-lying and dotted with lochs and lochans and is linked by causeway to the neighbouring Uists. There is an airport at Balivanich, where there is also the only cash machine on both Benbecula and South Uist. Subpolar oceanic climates have long but relatively mild (for their latitude) winters and cool and short summers (average temperatures of at least 10°C for one to three months). The summers are shorter and cooler than temperate oceanic climates, but the winters are not as cold as the more inland Boreal comiates. The Outer Hebrides are an area of unspoilt natural beauty with spectacular scenery, impressive mountain ranges, moorland, lochs, machair and miles of golden sandy beaches and turquoise seas. The Outer Hebrides have a unique Gaelic culture and many traditions while religion plays a very important role in daily life. The Scottish Gaelic language is still dominant in many communities in the Outer Hebrides.

The island of Benbecula is about 12 kilometres (7 miles) from west to east and a similar distance from north to south. It lies between the islands of North Uist and South Uist; it is connected to both by road causeways. Travel to any of the other Hebridean islands, or to the British mainland, is by air or sea. Benbecula Airport on the island has daily flights to Glasgow, Stornoway and Barra. Benbecula has a long military history An airfield to the north, built during World War II, became the control centre for the Hebrides rocket range, established during the Cold War and is now Benbecula Airport, An army base was established here in 1958 and is one of the main employers on the island as it is the headquarters for those who service the South Uist missile testing range. The airport was upgraded during 2001 and early 2002 in preparation for the Eurofighter Typhoon test programme. During the tests in April 2002, the £16 billion aircraft fired an Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile on the Hebrides test range, the first of this type of missile to be fired from a Eurofighter.
