A stone arched porch is a suitably dramatic entrance and is ideal for taking muddy boots off after enjoying one of the many local walks. A small entrance lobby offers access to the sitting room and kitchen dining room. The dual aspect sitting room with original open fireplace and triple bow window looks out towards the stunning chapels which are joined by a grand archway with tower above. The kitchen dining room has space for a generous dining table and a Watson range cooker. There is also a pantry and bathroom. There is another room off the principal bedroom with Reuleaux triangle window that could be transformed into a dressing room or a super bijoux study/office.

Outside the mature front garden is fully enclosed by mature hedging, fencing and a wall with wrought iron railings. The courtyard is ideal for entertaining and dining while also having the convenience of two outbuilding stores one of which is utilised as a laundry room. The freehold includes off road parking.

The location combines the best of rural and town life, while the property enjoys open countryside views, numerous walks and an abundance of nature, it is just a 5 to 10 minute walk to the town centre passing the Ramsey Abbey National Trust Gatehouse and its beautiful surroundings including Abbey and Church Green. Ramsey has great shopping, recreation and education amenities. Major road and rail links are also within easy reach including Huntingdon Train Station with regular commuter services into London.

Seller Insight

Cemetery Lodge is a charming property built in approximately 1860 in the attractive, Victorian Gothic style. The present owner, Amanda, has always loved architecture and was intrigued when she saw the property was coming up for auction. She decided to visit Ramsey and explains it was also her first visit to Cambridgeshire. She immediately loved the house, and quickly discovered the pleasing lifestyle that Ramsey and the county offer.

The Lodge enjoys a tranquil location at the entrance to the now unused cemetery and has a pretty, kerbside appeal with its attractive, arched Gothic windows, and five decorated chimneys. The property had been empty for a few years and was in need of some care and attention, and she decorated and restored woodwork throughout and also installed an aga and opened up the fireplace in the sitting room.

Amanda says Cemetery Lodge is an exquisite and unique home with an inviting and relaxed atmosphere, The kitchen is the sociable hub of the house where friends can gather round the large kitchen table before relaxing by a winter fire in the comfort of the sitting room. She says a fantastic and invaluable feature, is the walk in pantry where everything can be stored, and as it is north facing is always cool.

The front garden is enclosed with a wall and iron railings, whilst the private courtyard is perfect for al fresco meals and entertaining. One of the two brick sheds houses the freezer and washing machine and the second is a useful storage facility. It is a garden that requires minimal attention, making the house very easy to lock up and leave.

For eighteen years it has made a perfect country retreat, but Amanda lived there throughout lockdown and says it is a comfortable and hospitable permanent family home. Ramsey is an historic and busy town with many associations, including an annual Forties weekend. It is a five minute walk into the town centre and there are many country walks to explore. Historic Cambridge and Ely are both easy drives away and there is a frequent train service into London from Huntingdon and Ely stations. You have the best of town and country living.
