Description

Sitting outside, enjoying a drink in the last of the evening sunshine, the owners of the house on Boyce Crescent reminisce about the many happy years they have spent at their Old Farm Park home. “We have really loved being here,” one of them admits. “We love the location and the whole feel of the house. We bought it because we wanted somewhere in a quiet location, with decent-sized bedrooms and a sunny garden – and this was perfect. We liked the way it was set back from the road and seemed very private. When we went inside, we were surprised at how large it was. It had much more space than we ever imagined it would have from the outside.”

UPGRADING THE HOME

Dating back to 1991, the house was set on an exclusive development on former farmland. “We bought the property in 1997 but then lived and worked abroad for a time,” she recalls. “We returned 16 years ago and have been extremely happy here ever since.” In the time they have owned the property, the four-bedroom house has been improved throughout. “The bathrooms, kitchen, utility room and downstairs cloakroom were refurbished,” she explains. “We also upgraded the conservatory roof, redecorated and had shutters installed.” Although the house is spacious and beautifully presented, new owners could still put their own stamp on it she suggests. “Some people might like to consider putting a conservatory on to the kitchen as well as the sitting room.”

INDOOR OUTDOOR LIVING

Certainly, the house already offers an abundance of excellent living space. The large sitting room is very light and leads into the conservatory. “This is a very relaxing place to spend time,” she agrees. “It is also perfect for entertaining.” The kitchen breakfast room, which features painted, wooden units with Corian work surfaces, has space for a table and doors that open on to the terrace. “We like to sit in here and look out on to the garden, with the doors open during the summer months,” she adds. “The conservatory is also a very pleasant place to be in the spring and autumn months, when it is not quite warm enough to be outside.”

WELCOMING FRIENDS

Also downstairs are the cloakroom, utility room, study and dining room. “The study has been a very useful extra space to have in the house, especially during covid when we were working from home,” she observes. “These days we tend really only to use the dining room for special occasions and entertaining, but it is a very good size room and it has been really lovely to have it. We have lots of fond memories of dinner parties, Christmases and New Year’s Eves spent round the dining table in here.” She adds: “It is very easy to accommodate lots of guests in this house.”

SUNNY GARDEN

All the bedrooms and bathrooms are on the first floor of the house. The bedrooms are all double in size and two of them have en suite shower rooms. There is also a family bathroom. “This arrangement works well for family living as well as having friends and relatives to stay.” The garden has also come into its own whenever the owners are entertaining. “It really is lovely out there because it is so private and it enjoys the sun throughout the day,” she says. “We have a terrace with a large table that can seat a good number of people and then a smaller table positioned to catch the last of the evening sun. It is lovely because we have the sunshine out there all afternoon.”

HAPPY TIMES

On fine days, the owners have also enjoyed strolling over to Caldecotte Lake and Aspley Woods. “There are lots of lovely green areas around here if you enjoy spending time outside,” she agrees. “It is also very easy to get into the city centre and train station by car or by bus. We are well located for shops, supermarkets and good schools and are in a very good position for picking up the M1 if you want to travel to other parts of the country.” She adds: “We will miss being here when we leave – it has been a wonderful place to live. We are only moving on now because we are relocating, but we have enjoyed everything about being here and will take lots of great memories with us when we leave.”
