Following the glistening shores of Ullswater, arrive at the picturesque Lakeland village of Glenridding, where you will find all the essentials (and luxuries) needed for your stay, including shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants and a well-equipped sailing centre; only one mile from your stylish and sublimely set home-from-home.

On the fringe of Glenridding, poised between lake shore and mountainside, arrive at your five-star appointed luxury cottages.

Breathtaking, inimitable Lakeland views of sloping mountains, woodland, valley and babbling beck set the scene for tranquillity and relaxation upon arrival at a trio of distinguished bespoke designed homes, aptly and originally named after three celebrated local landmarks: Swirral Edge and Tower Cottage.

"The fleeting hour of life of those who love the hills is quickly spent, but the hills are eternal" - Alfred Wainwright

A three-storey, luxuriously appointed home-from-home, Tower Cottage is the perfect rural retreat for families or larger groups; with space to socialise and mingle and pockets of privacy for quiet contentment.

Through an impressive entrance, step into the warmth and welcome of Tower Cottage. Light flows in through the entrance, in this open and airy ground floor living area; elegantly style in easy natural shades which harmonise with the surrounding landscape. Opening up to the left, the kitchen is fully furnished with all the appliances you need to nourish your body and spirit for a holiday spent in nature's embrace. To the right, there is a dining area with plenty of storage available.

From the ground floor, ascend the stairs, where a mezzanine level part way provides the perfect comfort zone for time out, perhaps with a favourite book. Furnished with storage and bookshelves, alongside a day-bed, rest, relax and unwind, enjoying a moment of privacy with views over the ground floor, allowing you space to yourself whilst remaining connected to the family space.

Continue up to the middle floor to stretch out, snuggle up and catch up on the day's events in the living room, where French double doors fill the room with light from the south-west. When sleep beckons, comfort awaits in the main bedroom, found opposite the stairs and living room, served by its own ensuite containing large, walk-in shower, vanity unit wash basin and WC. An original arch feature adds much character.

Take the stairs up once more to discover two further bedrooms with wardrobe areas; both adorned in feature beams and furnished with ensuites containing large, walk-in showers, vanity unit wash basins and WCs. Outside, step onto the patio area, a peaceful area, fully fenced; the perfect place to enjoy a sundowner in the blissful natural surrounds.

Historic setting
Striding Edge Cottage, Swirral Edge Cottage and Tower Cottage are uniquely named - the only homes to bear the title in the region. Set on the site of the historic Greenside Mine, once quarried for precious silver and lead, these enchanting homes are poised at the foot of one of England's most famous mountains; Helvellyn.

An enduring favourite, the route up Helvellyn, named Britain's best walk in 2018, is signposted within eyesight of the collection of cottages. The legendary Striding Edge route is noted among the climbing echelons as a classic Grade 1 scramble, however a less exposed route is offered via Swirral Edge. On a clear day, spy Scotland over 170 miles away from the summit.

With walks to suit all ages and abilities, local peaks up for bagging include the more palatable Lower Man at 925 metres. With a range of walks suitable for different levels and experience, there is much scenery to be admired nearby. One option is a circular route via Red Tarns, to the midpoint of Swirral Edge and on to Catstycam, taking in Birkhouse Moor and Helvellyn. Other mountains to explore include Browncove Crags and Great How.

In wintertime, with sufficient snowfall, the cottages at Glenridding take on a ski-chalet ambience, as the surrounding slopes operate as part of the world-famous Lake District Ski Club; replete with tow lift!

Set above the shores of Ullswater, the second largest body of water in the Lake District, book onto a kayak tour with the local guides in Glenridding village or sit back and relax on one of the steamers, taking in the sights of Aira Force, How Town and Pooley Bridge. Dating back to 1877 and 1889, the 'Lady of the Lake' and 'Raven' offer a glimpse of history as they transport you across the deep waters of the lake, taking in spectacular scenery along the way.

A land of extremes, yet home to some of the most delicate species of wildlife - keep your eyes peeled for a glimpse of alpine butterfly the mountain ringlet. Pay a visit to the dramatic ruins and spectacular gardens of Lowther Castle, close by, with its shop and café and large adventure playgrounds.

With shops and pubs available in the village of Glenridding, further along the shores of Ullswater you can also call in on the picturesque villages of Patterdale and Pooley Bridge. The Lake District is renowned for its Michelin-starred cuisine, which can be experienced roughly 30 minutes' away at The Cottage in the Wood in Grasmere, The Old Stamp House in Ambleside and at Askham Hall in Penrith.

The source of inspiration for poets John Keats, William Wordsworth and artist Benjamin Robert Haydon, the legacy and romanticism of Helvellyn and its surrounding areas cannot be understated.

For a luxury retreat, make lasting memories with friends, family and loved ones, at Glenridding.

About AshdownJones, The Lakes and Lune Valley

1C Low Cleabarrow Business Centre Windermere Cumbria LA23 3FA

Hey,

Nice to 'meet' you! We're Sam Ashdown and Phil Jones, founders of AshdownJones - a bespoke estate agency specialising in selling unique homes in The Lake District and Lune Valley.

We love a challenge...

Over the last eighteen years we have helped sell over 1000 unique and special homes, all with their very own story to tell, all with their unique challenges.

Our distinctive property marketing services are not right for every home, but those clients we do help consistently sell quicker, and for a higher price.

If you have a unique home in The Lake District or The Dales, lets put some time in the diary to have a chat. Within an hour (or possibly two), you'll have a clear picture of how we could help you sell your home for the price you want, in the timescale you need. You may not be considering selling right now, and that's cool with us, having all the information will help you make the right decisions for you and your families.

After all, the right advice, at the right time, makes all the difference.

Selling property is what most estate agents do; changing people's lives takes longer, but it's what we at AshdownJones do. Moving house will change your life, and we want to be a part of that change, helping you every step of the way.

Let's have a chat over a cup of tea (preferably Yorkshire) and talk about what's best for you.

Sam, Phil and The AJ Team
