Cam is a large village with several shops including a pharmacy, florist, hardware store, three takeaways, restaurant, beauty salon, combined Post Office and card shop, parish council offices, two pubs including the Berkeley Arms and The Railway Inn as well as a Tesco supermarket all clustered loosely around St Bartholomew’s Church. Further facilities are available in Stroud which also offers a Waitrose supermarket.

Cam supports three primary schools located in the Woodfields, Hopton and Everlands districts of the village. The nearest secondary school is Rednock, just across the parish boundary in Dursley.

Recreational pursuits are numerous in the area and include racing at Cheltenham and Bath, sailing at the Cotswold Water Park, polo at Cirencester Park and motor racing at the Castle Combe race circuit. The Bristol and Gloucestershire Gliding Club is also located nearby, there is premiership rugby at Bath, Bristol and Gloucester and boating is available on the Gloucester canal.
There is a good range of private schools in the area which include Beaudesert Park at Minchinhampton; Rose Hill Westonbirt near Tetbury; Wycliffe College in Stonehouse and a wide selection of schools and colleges in both Cheltenham and Bristol.
