Description

Delightful cottage with far reaching views over the sea and marshes.

Description

There is an abundance of history at Shingle Street, which was known as Shinglestreet in the late eighteen century.

Shingle Street was originally a place where fishermen and pilots stayed to help navigate the River Alde and River Ore, over the treacherous shingle bar.

Early in the 19th century, during the Napoleonic Wars, Martello towers were built to act as a deterrent against foreign invasion. The Martello towers and the adjacent wooden cottages were later homes for the coast guards, river pilots and families. Many of the original buildings date from this period.

Shingle street eventually became a holiday destination for affluent families from the surrounding areas; it was a place where they could learn to swim, row, sail and fish. Or simply cruise in their yachts to Aldeburgh for golf.

The area is now a small community of homes and the sense of a place steeped in mystery and history remains.

6 Coastguard cottages is a delightful cottage with far reaching views over the sea and marshes.

The cottage has great character with many period features including open fireplaces, high ceilings, well-proportioned and light filled rooms.

The accommodation comprises a kitchen/ dining room with ample storage, a charming sitting room with exceptional views over the sea and family bathroom on the ground floor. Stairs lead up to two good sized bedrooms, both benefiting from superb views over the sea and marshes.

Outside there is a detached studio, which can be utilised for various uses and a sheltered courtyard garden.
