Description

Thinking back over the past four decades at his Woolstone home, the current owner has nothing but fond memories. He and his wife were the very first people to move into the handsome, red-brick bungalow with generous accommodation. It was a self-build that the builder designed and constructed, The plan was always to live in it himself but his wife decided it was too large!
The house, named Weilfraigeston, researched from the Doomsday book, is believed to mean Woolstone in Saxon, offers three bedrooms and three reception rooms. “We loved the fact the rooms, especially the sitting room, were much larger than average,”he continues. “We knew there would be plenty of room here for entertaining.”

MATURE THINKING

The enticing property sits comfortably within its good-sized grounds. “The plot was also very appealing to us at the time,” he remembers. “The plot was very much a blank canvas. I enjoy gardening and was pleased to have the opportunity to create it. Over the 40 years we have been here, I have developed it and enabled it to mature. There are now established hedges, plants, trees and herbaceous borders.” He adds: “There were also finishing touches to be made to the house inside as well. Doors and skirting boards were plain wood, so we sanded and polished them. We also had carpets laid and curtains hung. It was nice to be able to make it our own as, in many ways, we we starting from scratch.”

AN EASY FLOW

Set back from the quiet road via a large driveway, easily accommodating four cars has a neat front garden, the house is designed in an L-shape. A double garage above which is a room used as a gym, is attached at roof level and there is an underpass through to the exquisite decked area and manicured rear garden. The light-filled entrance hall has a parquet floor, exposed brickwork and access to the two wings of the house: the living areas and the bedroom and bathroom accommodation. “There is a very nice flow to this house, from one room to another and out on to the garden,” he observes.

ENTERTAINING FRIENDS

The expansive sitting room is a superb entertaining and relaxation space. Here French windows can be opens up on to the rear patio and garden. Steps from the sitting room lead up to the dining room, which in turn opens into a family room and the kitchen breakfast room. There is also a utility room and a cloakroom. “We used to do a lot of entertaining and the reception space here was always fantastic,” he says. “It was very easy to seat up to 10 people at the dining table and, of course, there is also so much space in the sitting room. Friends and neighbours would often come here for dinner parties.”

BEAUTIFUL BEDROOM SUITE

At the opposite end of the house, the bedroom and bathroom accommodation is also capacious. Here the jewel in the crown is the splendid master suite, with its large dual-aspect bedroom, with fitted wardrobes, and its four piece en suite shower room. Two other good-sized bedrooms, a recently modernised family bathroom and a cloakroom are also within this wing. “Friends would come to stay with us for a long weekend every six to eight weeks and we could always accommodate them comfortably,” he adds.

A PRESTIGIOUS PLACE

The location, with its balance of tranquillity, privacy and convenience, has also given him great pleasure over the decades. “I always think of Woolstone as the Mayfair of Milton Keynes – it is an ideal place to live,” Woolstone was originally two Saxon Hamlets and now has two popular pub/ restaurants a Church and active community hall. “There is so much that you can do from here. It is easy to get to the shopping centre and into the centre of Milton Keynes. We often used to walk in along the Redways to go to the theatre. The market towns of Stony Stratford and Newport Pagnell are very local. It is also quick to get to London, Cambridge and Oxford are equidistant from here, for a nice day out. There are some lovely places to go walking right from the doorstep – you can head off for a long walk through the Ouzel Valley Park or to Willen Lake.
