Smallhythe is a picturesque hamlet located in the Tenterden district of Kent. Officially known as Small Hythe, it is situated about 2.8 miles south of Tenterden. The name "Hythe" is derived from the Old English word meaning "landing place" or "harbour," indicating its historical connection to river trade and transportation. The most famous attraction in Smallhythe is Smallhythe Place, a half-timbered house that was once the home of the renowned Victorian actress Ellen Terry. The house is now owned by the National Trust and serves as a museum dedicated to Ellen Terry's life and career. The museum features a collection of memorabilia, costumes, and personal items belonging to Terry, offering visitors a glimpse into the world of theatre during the Victorian era. Smallhythe is also home to St. John the Baptist Church, a charming medieval church with origins dating back to the 12th century. The church features a Norman tower and other architectural elements from various periods, making it a notable landmark in the area. Set amidst the scenic countryside of the Kentish Weald, offering visitors tranquil surroundings and picturesque landscapes. The area is characterised by rolling hills, lush farmland, and meandering waterways, making it popular among nature lovers, walkers, and cyclists.

The land comprises about 20.50 acres of productive arable and about 17.30 acres of marsh pastureland which is accessed from the arable field. There are 2 access points into the arable field which links into the pasture field via a bridge which now requires immediate repair to make it useable and safe.
