Stari Grad also has a record-beating number of cafe bars, a prerequisite to the Mediterranean style of life. The local area also boasts some excellent beaches in the vicinity.

Stari Grad ferry port which lies on the outskirts of the town, is home to Jadrolinija, which offers a comprehensive service to the mainland with up to 6 ferry crossings in the summer months. Nearby, Jelsa has a daily catamaran service also run by Jadrolinija to Split via the town of Bol on Brac Island. While in the other direction, the famous city of Hvar is only a 20-minute drive.
