Freehold

Description

This unique detached chalet bungalow is set in park like grounds of approaching an acre. The property is believed to date back to 1790 and was converted approx 40 years ago from a former stable block and retains a huge amount of character whilst now offering scope for updating and modernisation. The property is approached through double gates and down a sweeping driveway to a parking area with double garage. The front door leads to a small hallway with doors to a bedroom and bathroom as well as through to the main living space. The open plan lounge/dining room features a double height, vaulted ceiling with some of the original beams still in place. There are large picture window that enjoy great views over the gardens and double doors lead to a conservatory. There is a stone fireplace as well as sweeping stairs that lead to the galleried landing. Adjoining the dining area there is a fitted kitchen with a range of units with integrated appliances, space for table and chairs and a window overlooking the pool terrace. The conservatory overlooks and opens onto the gardens and pool area. Bedroom one is located on the ground floor accessed from the entrance hall and is fitted with a range of wardrobes. The bathroom adjoins the bedroom and in our opinion is large enough to sub-divide and create an en-suite and family bathroom The bathroom is currently fitted with a brown suite. On the first floor, accessed from the galleried landing are two smaller double bedrooms, both with vaulted ceilings. In our opinion it would be possible to create additional first floor bedroom space by enclosing the vaulted area.

The outside space is a particular feature of the property, There is a patio area adjoining the rear with a swimming pool. There is a pool house with a sitting area, a small fitted kitchen and WC/shower room as well as a store all of which offers scope to convert to an annex if required. The majority of the grounds comprise sweeping lawns with a number of mature trees as well as a tucked away seating area. The grounds extend to .89 of an acre. There is also a useful potting shed adjoining the double garage.

The property is situated on the rural outskirts of Bletchingley between the towns of Redhill and Caterham. Caterham offers a range of local shops and supermarkets as well as pubs including the nearby and popular Harrow, restaurants and takeaways. There is an excellent selection of both state and private schools in the local area for children of all ages including the Caterham School, Hawthorne’s and Oakhurst Grange. The Barn is nestled on the edge of the North Downs Way and there area of outstanding natural beauty starts over the road. Miles of open countryside accessed via the nearby footpaths and bridleways provide excellent walking, riding and mountain biking. There are also a number of golf clubs, Caterham Rugby Club, Bowles and Cricket clubs locally and the De Stafford Sports and Leisure centre offers a further range of facilities. Caterham and Merstham stations have regular trains to London via East Croydon and buses can be accessed nearby. The M25 can be accessed at J6 Godstone or J8 Reigate.
