Sirmione does not need too much introduction: it is a small jewel suspended in the middle of the lower Lake Garda.
The town borders Peschiera del Garda to the southeast and Desenzano del Garda to the southwest. The lakeside section borders Lazise and Castelnuovo del Garda to the east and Padenghe sul Garda to the north.
The historic center is at the northern end of a long, narrow peninsula about four kilometers long that bisects the southern lake shore, and is also configured as an island, since it has been isolated from the peninsula by a navigable moat, which is crossed by a single access route, a bridge.
It still retains a medieval urban structure, with narrow, irregular streets. Since the 1970s there have been (first case that of the Grifone Hotel and the Speranza Hotel) architectural interventions to the exterior walls of the buildings, which have restored their older appearance, with exposed brick and stone. And a restricted traffic area, it could be said to be a pedestrian's paradise.
