The municipality of Toscolano-Maderno is located on the western shore of Lake Garda and consists of the merger of the towns Toscolano and Maderno, autonomous municipalities until 1928 and divided by the Toscolano stream.
Toscolano-Maderno is part of the Alto Garda Bresciano regional park, and in the Middle Ages Maderno had a great political and administrative impact. In the 17th and 18th centuries the Dukes of Mantua had their summer residence in the Gonzaga Palace and the Villa del Serraglio.
Starting in the 1300s, the paper industry developed in the gorge of the small Toscolano River, which is why that section of the valley is called the "Valley of the Paper Mills," a true open-air museum that boasts a beautiful walk that can be taken at any time of year.
A ferry service allows cars to be transported and connects Maderno with Torri del Benaco, located on the opposite side of the lake. Lake Garda also enjoys a privileged location being easily accessible from the Brenner (A22), Milan-Venice (A4) highways, as well as the airports of Bergamo, Verona, Milan, and Venice.
