The beautiful harbour has many fish tavernas and cafeterias. There is a wonderful sandy beach and several other coves in the surrounding area.
The village is well served with supermarkets, butcher, greengrocers, bakeries, chemists, bank, petrol station and more.
There is a regular bus service connecting Makrigialos to Ierapetra and Sitia.
