The “ old Town” dates back to the times of the Romans and the Arabs. The latter occupied the area in the 7th century and parts of its castle and Moorish fort walls still stand today. The word “ AL bufeira “ derives from the Arabic word “ west “ and was originally known as “ Albuhera “
