Description

A beautiful large white Andalucian mill house located in a stunning position within the valley. The land forms a bowl shape with a small stream acting as a natural boundary which is surrounded by hills and olive groves creating lovely views and natural seclusion. This unique and beautiful Andalucian Cortijo with 10 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms and private swimming pool, is currently used for holiday rentals however it was a working water mill and bakery until the end of the 20th century, supplying bread to local farms and villages. The old bakery kitchen still features the original bread oven, but now has a restaurant grade cooker and a dishwasher too. It is worth noting that other original features, particularly the original old mill stones and some machinery are still there and could be further restored for historical interest. It is a fantastic property that has everything to offer, located near the lovely Lake Iznájar and with excellent access to the vibrant cities of southern Spain: Granada, Seville, Córdoba, Ronda and Málaga. Lovingly restored to retain all the character, the accommodation is arranged into two wings around a central courtyard. The eastern wing of the house is renovated from the old mill, retaining its original features, here we find the main kitchen, living and dining rooms together with 5/6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. On the lower ground floor there is also a studio for yoga and pilates or indoor cinema (with projector and screen). The other wing was formerly the house of the master baker and has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and a second kitchen. One of the bedrooms could easily be used as a living room to make this a totally independent guest house or owners' accommodation. Despite its age, property has been brought up to date and offers full central heating with 22 radiators driven by a biomass boiler that uses olive pits from the village olive oil cooperative. This is obviously a renewable resource and therefore better (and cheaper) than oil or gas. It also benefits from air conditioning in some rooms, solar panels for heating the water, with backup gas and electric systems, a well for irrigation of the gardens and a three phase electricity supply. This stunning property offers the option of having breakfast on the kitchen terrace (watching the antics of the ducks and listening to the hens laying your morning eggs), lunch in the vine-shaded courtyard, or ramble down to the stream with the children for a picnic tea and enjoy dinner by the pool in the evening. If you prefer to entertain guests indoors the dining room can seat up to 18 people and you can easily spread out into the adjacent Old Bakery kitchen which seats a further 10 guests. In the grounds, you will find a number of deciduous trees offering shade in the summer, fresh herbs from the kitchen garden, pomegranate, fig, peach, and almond trees, sunny terraces, and a floodlit games court, for family knockaround tennis, volleyball or badminton. There is a Petanque Pista (the Spanish version of Boules), ping pong table, sandpit and of course a lovely private swimming pool. The exterior also boasts shaded dining areas, picnic spots next to the stream, a vine-covered courtyard, and big private gardens where children can run around safely. Additionally, as the land is flat it would be ideal for horse paddocks, so may appeal to those wishing to enjoy the beautiful location on horseback. Although this wonderful property is currently used for holiday rentals, there are numerous possibilities and permutations for its use, either as a large family home, Bed and Breakfast, a wedding venue of health retreat or the new owners could live there permanently in one part and rent out the other. There are a team of professionals currently managing the property who would be happy to continue.
