Our clients have owned and operated The Red Lion since December 2006 and in this time have created and developed a successful, well-established and profit-making business. The Red Lion is renowned throughout the local area for its diverse fusion menu, combining a British 'pub classics' offering with a twist of Sardinian influence, all using locally sourced ingredients. The kitchen also caters for Sunday lunches and themed menu evenings. More information can be found at
The business currently hosts a variety of functions and events such as quiz nights, christenings, weddings and fundraisers, as well as a darts team and a book club. The business's main custom comes by way of the local community clientele, however ramblers and dog walkers from the nearby guesthouses and campsites generate additional trade, especially during the summer months. The property also benefits from its own on-site 'Birchover Brewery' which offers a selection of brews that include 'Bircher Best', 'Cork Stone', 'Nine Ladies' and 'Robin Hood's Stride'. Limited release ales are also offered throughout the year. Our clients inform us they are willing to offer a 'handover period' for the brewery should a new operator require it. Recipes of current and historic brews will be passed over to the buyer upon completion.
The Red Lion is currently operated by our husband and wife clients with three part-time staff. Trade is split approximately 60/40 in favour of wet sales. The opportunity to increase turnover is available by way of implementing the granted planning permission for the extension of the commercial kitchen, allowing more preparation and storage space. Please note the planning permission is ceaseless with no date of lapse.
