Finds from the prehistoric period were found in the cave of Sakkos, while the ruins of the temple of Apollo with the magnificent Doric columns that still stand outside Skala along the road to Poros, date from the 6th century BC. The chapel of Agios Georgios was rebuilt after the catastrophic earthquake of 1953 using some of the ruins of the temple of Apollo.
