Description

Casa Lungo Fibreno is a spacious 4 bedroom 3 bathroom freestanding home set in its own grounds situated halfway between Arpino and Isola del Liri, and within walking distance of the hamlet of Carnello. The property is situated up a private drive off a quiet, residential road which runs attractively along the bank of the Fibreno river, and there is much green space for walking, jogging and biking.

The house is currently laid out with a separate charming one bedroom, one bathroom apartment on the ground floor with a spacious sitting room with open log fireplace and an open-plan fully-fitted attractive kitchen. On this level there is also a a large entertaining room with its own little kitchenette. If the house is to be divided into two apartments by the purchaser, this entertaining room could form part of either the lower floor or the upper floor apartment.

The upper level can be accessed by a separate entrance if desired, or alternatively through the ground floor entertaining area. The large upper floor living area has a double size sitting room, an eat-in kitchen, three bedrooms (one ensuite) and another bathroom. The upper floor benefits from attractive balconies with vistas looking out over the countryside to the mountains; the lower floor opens directly onto the garden and the patio.

A garden with fruit trees, a free-standing large garage and much storage space complete the facilities of this most attractive property.

At the foot of the hilltop town of Arpino, Carnello is a quiet and pretty village, nonetheless within 10 minutes drive of the nightlife of Isola del Liri (with its spectacular waterfall) and the local administrative centre of Sora. Small but self-sufficient, Carnello has four bars/cafés, the very fine restaurant at the posthouse hotel, several pizzerias, a post office, a pharmacy, a patisserie, a bakery, a butcher, a hardware store, a stationer's/news agent, a tobacconist, a hairdresser, a church, a service station, a particularly good fruit and vegetable shop, public transport links ... everything within walking distance. Th beauitful medieval hilltop town of Arpino is a ten minte drive

Casa Lungo Fibreno has excellent road access to the superstrada and hence the Rome/Naples autostrada; Rome and Rome's airports are only 90 minutes drive away.

ARPINO AND THE CIOCIARIA

Arpino is one of the major medieval hilltop towns in the area of Italy called the Ciociaria, the name given to the fertile land that lies south of Rome but north of Naples, situated inland in the hills in the heart of Italy.

The Ciociaria region is within easy reach of both Rome and Naples and their respective airports. A day's shopping in Rome is a common pastime, while an even shorter drive brings you to the charming beaches south of Rome. Alternatively, drive east, and the mountains of the Abruzzo National Park await with horse trekking in the magnificent beech forests, and sparkling mountain lakes and rivers where you can swim in the heat of the summer. And at the other extreme of temperature, although Arpino itself is temperate, less than an hour's drive brings you to the winter ski slopes.

Often overlooked, both by tourists and by those foreigners in search of an Italian home, in favour of the more publicized regions of Tuscany and Umbria, the Ciociaria remains largely an unspoilt gem with beautiful scenery and medieval hilltop towns. A home or second home in the Ciociaria, in the hilltop towns of Arpino, Veroli, Alatri or in the rolling countryside that surrounds them, will afford you a setting where over two thousand years of history combine with an idyllic rural Italian lifestyle, where you can still discover the 'real' Italy and take time out from the busy crowds of the larger tourist cities, while being less than ninety minutes journey from central Rome or either of Rome's two airports.
