Rightmove to grow technology team by 40%

Rightmove, the UK’s biggest home-grown web brand, has embarked on an ambitious recruitment plan to grow its technology team by 40%.

As one of the UK’s top ten most visited websites with over two billion visits in 2020, the innovative tech giant is looking for people in engineering, product and design roles to join its tech journey to help make home-moving easier in the UK.

Rightmove introduced a number of innovations for both home-hunters and estate agents over the past year. 2020 saw the launch of a ground-up rebuilding of the platform’s property details pages to include larger images, integrated video content, and property images alongside floorplans, leading to people spending 70% longer looking at each property listing. A new online viewings tool was also introduced to help with the rise in video viewings, plus the start of a roll-out of an integrated appointment booking system for tenants. There are several new innovations planned for this year focused on making the rental journey better, building on early trials last year.

Rightmove’s Chief Product & Technology Officer, Tarah Lourens, says: “Home-moving is something we all experience and Rightmove is at the heart of that, and our purpose is to make that experience even better by constantly looking ahead to the next innovation. We’re looking for talented people to join our collaborative and inclusive teams to help the millions of home-hunters who rely on us as the biggest source of property information online, and to help our customers grow their businesses with real-time data insights and tools.

“We’re based in Soho and Milton Keynes and in joining us you’ll be encouraged and supported to contribute and collaborate across both tech and product ideas. Our engineering community have a keen interest in using new technology and approaches to help us improve further, and get the opportunity to bring their ideas to life through our Hackathons and weekly 10% time. We’re proud that over the years a number of Hackathon projects have made their way into features on the site.”

In 2020 Rightmove marked its twentieth year of helping people find their next happy home.

Here are just a few facts about us:

  • More people than ever turned to Rightmove in 2020 with over 2 billion visits across all our platforms, spending more than 15.9 billion minutes
  • The property that has received the biggest number of hits on Rightmove was completely purple, and racked up over three million hits in 2013
  • Activity on Rightmove in inextricably linked to UK events, which uncover a number of real-time trends such as:
    • The return of ITV’s Broadchurch in 2015 saw 12 times as many searches on Rightmove for the village of Broadchurch itself, despite it being completely fictional
    • At the 2018 World Cup, Rightmove traffic dipped at the exact minute of each of England’s goals during their 6-1 win over Panama
    • Last month searches more than doubled in Morecambe where ITV police drama The Bay is set
