Property-hunters considering a purchase in Turkey area being advised that the areas popular with foreign owners have been unaffected by the recent earthquake and they shouldn’t be put off buying.

The earthquake happened in Ercis in the far east of the country, while the resorts where foreign buyers predominantly buy are all along the west coast, where it’s perfectly safe to travel to.

To put things into perspective, the distance between Ercis and Turkey’s western Aegean and Med areas is further than the flying distance between London and Rome. Julian Walker from agent Spot Blue commented: “Ercis is an agricultural area and a long way from the modern Turkey – change comes slowly in this part of Turkey. Following a previous earthquake in 1999 the Turkish Government introduced international earthquake building regulations that are now an essential part of all new building in Turkey.”

Walker added: “For additional buyer’s protection the Turkish the government introduced a compulsory earthquake insurance scheme which is now part of any property purchase in Turkey. Regretfully the effected properties in the earthquake zone were probably all built before the benefit of the new earthquake building regulations.”
