Getting married abroad is a good way to save money, an expert has stated, something that could have implications for Spanish property owners.

Managing director at Weddings & Honeymoons Abroad Nick Gropper said: "Getting married in the UK costs round about £20,000 whereas when you get married abroad, the average cost is about £4,000."

Such savings could be beneficial to Spanish property investors, who may be able to rent out apartments to honeymooning couples who marry in the country.

Spain is one of the most popular places for Britons to wed overseas, marryabroad.co.uk has said this month.

The portal noted that the country is, along with Greece, among the two most popular destinations for overseas nuptials.

Moreover, the practice has shown an increase in popularity, with the site seeing a 29 per cent year-on-year rise in visits in the first two months of 2009.
