Once you have made the move to new country, you will be so full of excitement about exploring your home that you may choose to enjoy holidays there, or “staycation” rather than venture further afield.

Today Carole Wirzsyla of the USA Buying Guide tells us a little about vacation patterns in the USA…

“When you make the move to the USA, you will find that the concept of a holiday over here is quite different from the British equivalent. This can be largely attributed to the fact that America is so huge and comprises such a wide variety of cultures among the states. Whereas back in England my family and I would head to the Mediterranean to soak up some much-needed sunshine, here we stay in the country and what we do as a family is very different.”

“One important thing to note is that holidays are far more precious over here for the simple fact that most employees get very few days holiday. This means that people often spend all of their holiday time visiting their relatives rather than going on a holiday. Air travel is expensive, the rail network isn’t as far-reaching as you would think and much like the UK, gas is steadily creeping up in price. For these reasons, when you are choosing where to base yourself in the US, I would bear in mind whether there is anywhere nearby that you could enjoy a vacation.”

Anyone on the verge of buying a property in the USA, who will need to transfer Sterling to a dollar account to pay for their purchase, should consider using Smart Currency Exchange, as they consistently offer better exchange rates than banks. For more information on this, visit the Currency Zone or download Smart’s free report here.
